dealing with xanax w/d...need advice!
Hello, I just stopped xanax .5 mg/daily and substituted for klonopine .5/daily. It seems to be covering up the xanax withdrawal decently, but it's been two days since I've had any xanax and I'm starting to feel kind of shitty....I only have one xanax left. I feel headachy and easily startled, nervous, ect. Should I take some and try to get more? Is it safe to stop and substitute with an equivalant dose of clonazepam? My doctor seems to think so..."0h that only lasts a couple days..."

So your doctor says one thing and you ask BLTC the same question expecting us to be more informed than your doctor?
I would trust the doc man.... not only does he know more about your situation, I'm sure he wouldn't put you in harms way, and you probably will be ok.
Maybe you should ask him for a higher dose of the kpins to effectively treat your side effects...?

I'm asking for advice based on personal experience, not what the medical profession says. Sorry, should have been more clear. Has anyone experienced coming off xanax cold turkey by substituting a different benzo, and would you recommend it? That's my question.

Fuck yes we are! OP's doctor isn't an addiction therapist, nor has he (likely) ever taken a benzo, or even known the effects any more than "cures anxiety, moderately addictive". Doctors don't know shit, they only memorize and jump on WebMD when they don't know what's going on. Far more doctors have made their patients hooked on benzos than any amount of illicit benzo users who just wanted to try them recreationally. Neither do doctors have the patient's interest at heart. Here's are a few excellent threads on the subject:

BLTC knows several degrees of magnitude more about him; not only does BLTC have direct experience with the chemicals he's taking, but OP could easily tell BLTC things he wouldn't dare tell his doctor, and the doctor doesn't know OP's entire situation. Further, if OP told his doctor his entire situation, you can rest assured he would be getting NO MORE SCRIPTS from his physician; that's what the fuckers do, if you're a risk, the doctor won't risk a malpractice suit.

|
The fuck he won't! See those threads above, it might be accidental, but it could have been easily avoided had OP done his own research and done the right thing rather than placing all trust in a doctor. Fucking capitalism, culture of dependency FTMFL.

No. OP should go smoke all day and eat comfort foods. You don't get off of an addiction by substituting another drug, you either wean yourself or smoke so much weed that you can't think about it for a few days and forget you ever had it. Increasing the dose is about as stupid as getting OP back on xanax, it will not help in large quantities in the long run. Assuming OP is the typical BLTCer, he'll start to love his new benzo and go back to the same old game.
Never trust a doctor with chemicals, they don't learn in pre-med, they just memorize effects and have no idea what to do if things go wrong. Doctors are not intelligent, they just have the endurance to get through a decade of education and a half-ass memory.

yea, i am going to have to agree that when it comes to doctors and addiction, shit can hit the fan....but come on, .5g a day? I'm not saying that isn't addictive, but the doctor knows what he is talking about when he says that it is normal and won't cause an major problems.
I totally agree, smoking and taking it easy for the next few days is the best option, but like trainwred said...that wd is jack.
Having a patients best interest at heart and avoiding a law suit will normally fall in the same boat. You can't tell me that he is avoiding a court date by making his patient feel like shit...If the withdrawls were going to be bad enough he would do something about it.
The whole spiel about Kpins was semi-satirical because most of the time a typical BLTCer, assuming the OP is one, is constantly trying to get from the doctor all that he is worth; a better, and better script.
\
Finally to the OP, I would follow nshanin's advice and smoke all day till the wd's go away...you don't need advice on taking klonopin, obviously you know the risks.

Thanks for the replys...the useful ones anyway. I think the point that its only .5 so I shouldn't be concerned is valid. I guess I'm just still adjusting. Thanks for the input. And it's much better to do your own research than to just trust your doctor. Not that you shouldn't value his/her opinion.

You're retarded. If you must know my history, I have been cutting down for some time now from 2 mgs daily, which is fairly high (equivalent 40 mg diazepam). I use the pills for anxiety, so obviously my withdrawals will be worse than the average fucked up benzo abuser, as my original symptoms resurface. Smartass remarks don't help.

my mother recently went to rehab because she had a tendency to eat about 150 .5mg xanax in a couple of days... she had a full blown fucking seizure during detox because she lied about how much she took... 2mg per day is enough to form some form of addiction, but your down to half a milligram per day, thats not alot of xanax...

ok take .5 mgs kpin for 10 days, then .25 for 15 days, then .25 every other day for 10 days. then once every 4 days, then youll be good.
and that is very drawn out and kinda unnecessary.
seriously do people not know how to fuckin ween?

Another fucking moron who has aboslutley no idea what hes talking about. First off your a fucking liar because nobody would write a script for fucking 65 xanax bars. If it's one a day(65 days, not a chance it would be a 30 day script) or two a day which would be 32.5 days. Even if you take 3mg as you said daily that would last you 21.66 days. Nice try dumbass, if your going to talk out of your asshole atleast make it believable. And BTW Klonopin is leaps and bounds better then fucking xanax, unless your a fucking teenager who eats a bar and drinks a beer thinking hes tough shit. STFU
And to the op: I cant even relate to what your feeling, as ive never been on that low of a dose of xanax and tapered off of it. You may feel groggy/shitty for a few days, but it's all mentall in your case. Thats a very low dose to be experiencing any sorts of withdrawals from, and I doubt you've been on it for a long time because you would be taking alot more then .5 daily . The klonopin will help any withdrawal sypmtoms your feeling, just got to get used to it. Klonopin as i said is much better then xanax in the first place. You'll get over it.

Actually there was this one dumbass in LT a little while ago so I'm going to take back what I said, hiatus. :)
As for doctors, you should seriously consider reading those threads. Zek couldn't get opes because the doctors didn't want him to abuse them, so he bought them on the black market. You call that having the patient's interests at heart? When it comes to drugs, you should never trust a doctor, Zek was told the same thing about the anxiety, and now look at where he is.

For sure...I will agree with you when it comes to doctors covering their ass with addicted patients. Reading those posts really shows that no matter what is happening to you the doctor has his best interests at heart...I guess it's pretty much coincidence when yours and his are the same, lol.
