Live squid
Anyone ever try live squid? My uncle says he's going to take me to a restaurant that serves it in Beijing, although the dish originated from South Korea. Supposedly, they cut the squid while it's still alive, and when they serve it, the tentacles are still moving and stuff.

Re: Live squid
I had live octopus in a Korean restaurant in Malaysia, my dad forced me and my mom to go there, they had all those little octopus that were still moving, you basically have to swallow them whole without chewing, I couldn't do it do, I chewed them.
It was gross but good at the same time, I'm into that sort of food.
Anyway eat I'm sure it'll be a good experience you can brag about later on in life.

Re: Live squid
Yeah, there's nothing wrong with giving it a whirl. In the name of culinary/cultural exploration, I'm willing to give most anything a first, and possibly second try. Live squid sounds intriguing.

Re: Live squid
I would try it, but I don't know if its something I would eat often. I love trying new foods from different cultures.

Re: Live squid
i was born in korea, and my parents are korean.
never tried it though.
it's considered a 'delicacy' there.
i think is some kind of saddist shit.
apparently you have to be careful because the tentecles will try and suck on (the little rings) your tongue or throat and then you might choke.

Sounds like something from a twisted anime.

Re: Live squid
I tried some raw calamari at this new (surprisingly good) sushi buffet that they just opened in town. Most of the buffetts that have sushi suck but this one they actually care about their product. What I kinda stayed away from though was all of the raw chicken breasts that they had out on ice. How could anyone eat that?

From what I understand, it's reasonably common in Asia to have skewered, medium rare chicken.
If the bird is from a reliable source and was butchered that day, I don't honestly know how much worse it'd be than, say, a medium rare steak.
It'd definitely take some getting used to, though.

Re: Live squid
AE150 is right though, in Asia they do like their chicken undercooked, personally I find it really unappealing, unless it's good quality beef I like my meats to be well cooked expecially if I'm eating out so I can't rely trust the source too much.
I love raw fish, sushi and sashimi are two of my favourite foods, but really I had some chicken in Asia that was still raw on the inside, really couldn't eat that, whenever I cook chicken I take my time with it, especially if I'm grilling it.
