Question about opiates, the "1 shot and your addicted" thing.
Hi there!
I have a question maybe you guys can help me out with:
Is the "1 shot and your addicted" thing true?
I ask it because I heard it a lot from a lot of people (people who amazingly know nothing about drugs), and I heard things too about the massive amounts of addiciton potential to coke, but when I finnaly tried it, I didn´t liked it that much and I never did again (I just snorted and smoked it in a cigarrete), althrought I had other chances.
Soo, is it true?

Re: Question about opiates, the "1 shot and your addicted" thing.
At lot of times, it depends on your personality. Some people get addicted to anything, be it coffee, cigarettes, or even just watching TV or playing a video game. Others can do pretty much anything, and stop at any instant.
How often have you tried quitting cigarettes? If you have, how long did it last? How were your urges to smoke while you were 'quitting'? Some argue that quitting cigarettes is harder than quitting Heroin, so if you smoking cigarettes is merely something you do, in the same way you might watch a certain show or go to a certain place, rather than an addiction (NEEDING one when you wake up, etc), the chances you have what's known as an Addictive Personality is slimmer than if you aren't that way.
I haven't IV'd any opiates or anything, so I don't have any firsthand information though.

Re: Question about opiates, the "1 shot and your addicted" thing.
no addiction compares to that of opiates. you can do it for 3-4 days straight and quit and it will be a mental challenge. you might feel shitty for a day (withdrawls) but it won't last much longer than that. initially what will keep you from addiction is will power and mental capacity. once you start binging for a week or more, it will become something you phsyically need. i would recommend only buying enough for one or two days.

Thanks for all the replys people!
So the conclusion is that one shot doesn´t change your nervous system enought (sp?) to cause hellish withdrawls opiates are known for.

Re: Question about opiates, the "1 shot and your addicted" thing.
Fuck shooting up opiates. I know it's the best way, and I can only imagine how good it feels, but fuck that.
I mean if you shoot up once, I'm guessing that snorting H or popping a pill wouldn't even compare, so why bother when you can shoot it again? And it's not like you're gonna shoot up once, then quit opiates altogether.
Sounds like a slippery slope to me.

Sounds like bang-for-buck to me. I mean, if you are disciplined about it, shooting up once a fortnight in the same way you might snort or pop some pills once a fortnight would make sense.

Actually, I think I misread that. I read it as "snorted it and smoked a cigarette".

Just as a counterexample, I can eat 150+ mg oxycodone a day for weeks on end, and stop with no withdrawals or anything. I've done it many times.

That is pretty much the theory behind the whole '1 shot thing', if you already sticked the shit in your veins and felt that rush that is uncomparable with any other form of administration, why would you turn back to snorting or popping? Once you shoot up, other means just feel pail in comparison. Ive seen dudes you used to snort oxy shoot the stuff once then just completley turn to the needle for pretty much everything they do, and not even for opiates either. Once you get careful with the rig, you'll start shooting your coke, meth, other opes, etc.. From most iv users that ive heard from, once you shoot up any other means of administration is pretty much a waste. Asks anybody whos shoots up why they do it: THE RUSH
As you said, it pretty much downhill from there

Re: Question about opiates, the "1 shot and your addicted" thing.
So far, in my experiences with comparatively weak opiates (morphine, hydro, opium), as long as you set a line, in my case its not more than once every two weeks, you will have no problems.
I personally wouldn't ever use a needle, not becuase its gonna be more dangerous than smoking / snorting / shoving it up your ass, if done correctly and properly, but simply because its so effective. I hear that banging, opiates especially, blows any other method of administration out of the water, I've heard people say that the needle is addictive in itself.
To each their own or whatever, its your body, but I don't think I'll ever feel the need to inject something directly into my blood stream just to get high. And yes, I'm sure I'm missing out by making that choice.

Re: Question about opiates, the "1 shot and your addicted" thing.
If your not going anywhere in life, you have no aspirations, no goals, no one that will be disappointed in you, you will be much more prone to habitual drug use than others. Generally what I see in drug addicts, is that its not that they love OC or something so much that they have to do it everyday, they are just addicted to drugs. They will take anything as long as they are not sober.

Re: Question about opiates, the "1 shot and your addicted" thing.
its not far from the truth...
usually you turn to the needle with opiates because your doing em quite often and need something new to make it better. sure, only by then you through all fuck all common sense out the window....
the only people who have self control with a needle are those who have already been knee deep in shit before...

Re: Question about opiates, the "1 shot and your addicted" thing.
I'd just like to agree that it's really all about the person doing the shooting. If you're prone to addiction or are weak minded then that may very well be true. As with all drugs, you should be prepared mentally before you do it. Darwin takes care of the rest.

sees that the thing actually. when i was real real bad into i was snorting it all the time, took too many bars one night, had an "awakening" of sorts, quit for almost a week. after i got back into the dope game i was banging it when i got high to save money cuz i was no longer gettin high like i was before this. i banged exclusively for almost 2 weeks and now i go back n forth between the two, my arms get too scarred and obvious if i exclusively jack.

Sounds like a slippery slope to me.
Comes down to what ya got goin for ya and your level of self-discipline. Folks say drugs are fulfilling for those who haven't found the things in life that fulfill them so they don't know what they miss out on. IV'ing is no disappointment and for me really never gets old.
To get to the point no you won't get physically addicted after one shot, especially if your daily dose stays at a steady non-increasing pace. It's easy to keep your habit affordable and minimal even on a daily basis and still get a good amount of enjoyment, at the same time it's easy to go from 1 bag to a bundle habit in a week that gets you in over your head. Steady dose i'd give it a week or two on the physical WD's but as for the point, you can easily get addicted on the first shot psychologically.
You're not gonna get addicted as fast as you think but it still sneaks up on you. It takes alot of timely painful fuckups to even begin to tame an opiate habit, especially IV while keeping an effective smoke screen, keeping steady connects, keeping your ass safe, and dealing with being ill unexpectedly sometimes and for your own secrecy having to show no signs at all.
It really doesn't sound worth it, but that goes back to the second sentence in this post.

Nope, zero. I still *want* it, but it's not an obsession or anything. I stopped on Monday after about a month of near daily use, before which was a 1-2 week break preceded by about 2 months of near daily use, and have had absolutely no physical w/d. I'd like some oxy now, but I'm not going to get any and that won't be a problem. Any kind of w/d I have is purely psychological and very easily overcome.
