Well, we(not including government people, probably) don't know how they're ships work or why they sometimes crash. Besides, they could've gotten the technology from other aliens or overall they might not be that advanced, they might've sort of just come across the idea for this technology by chance, or some advanced thing could be making their ships crash.

Maybe there are some elements of faster than light spaceflight which are wholly unpredictable and on rare occasions lead to accidents. When I was thinking of hybrid, I was thinking more along the lines of the ancient peoples who came in contact with a meteor that contained alien bacteria. From touching the rock, the bacteria combined with our own DNA altering those who touched it into hybrids. The rocks were a colonization project by an alien race million of light years away. Soon those who possessed the rocks developed extraordinary intelligence and unique abilities that allowed them to conquer the world. Later in history each of the civilizations was then visited by aliens and given more info and technology. Some of these unique abilities where locked into that DNA like a code. When certain code chains lined up it produced beings that had brains that mapped the future, as the aliens that sent the rock where time travelers. We called these men prophets and holy men, and the aliens were angels and demons. Throughout history, fighting for these special meteors went on, and a name given to the collection of these meteor fragments was the holy grail. They called it this because of the divine powers that it gave those who possessed it. Jesus was a descendant of the bloodline that possessed these stones. The Bible prophecies say that the the second coming of Christ and the Anti-Christ will be born of these families.
