Default Drug Free School Zone

So i'm looking at apartments and there is this one that seems pretty perfect except that its about 500 ft from a school with a big Drug Free School Zone sign. Apparently everything within 1000 ft is in the zone. Anyone selling drugs in the zone gets a mandatory felony with jailtime.
I don't sell drugs but i do smoke a lot of weed. I generally buy in 1-2 oz quantities because its cheaper and i want to buy a scale because i hate getting ripped off. So i've got two questions. Does anyone know if drug free school laws pertain to possession as well? And if i had more than an o at my house and a scale would they try to pin a possession w/ intent to sell on me?
I live in Virginia if that's any help. I've checked NORML's law website by state but there info is pretty out of date. Thank you in advance for any help.

Thumbs up Re: Drug Free School Zone

Yeah, they pertain to possession too. It might not make it an immediate felony but drug-free school zones basically increase the penalties for infractions such as drugs, gangs, and firearms.

In most cities there are so many schools that it's hard to find an area that isn't in a drug free zone so everyone get fucked draconian style.

If your not selling though I wouldn't even worry about it. Keep the weed and scale in your house and smoke in the backyard. You should only be worried if you plan on doing something that would cause the PoPo to raid your house in which case they would find your stash and start stacking charges.

Happy tokin'

It's weird I always see people smoking blunts by schools and in parks, the 2 dumbest places. As long as you're smart and don't sell directly out of a residence or at the same place every day you'll be good.

your safe, don't smoke in the backyard in my opinion.

Keep smoking to a room so the neighbors don't get smart to your act, unless your 'rents are an issue, then find some woods, or smoke 007 style

if you've ever been to NY you are ALWAYS in a drug free zone so most cops won't rip you up on a felony for smoking a blunt in one.

they only get you for that one if theyre gettin you for something else and just want one more thing to pin on ya.

ie:
my friends house got raided with lets just say a cocaine factory going on in his house...

and he happened to live within a "school zone"

so he got extra FUCKED.

but smoking your fattys should be just peachy.

if you arent selling then you wouldnt be under their watch, which means if they did for some random reason search your shit you have a chance at getting them to understand you're a user not a seller. my excuse for having a clock has always been simply that i am a smart consumer. and that whole school zone shit only matters if you aren't using a lawyer. if you acquire a lawyer that is the first thing to be dropped.
