| Network (in)Security Interesting hacks and cracks. Info on firewalls, TCP/IP, encryption, networks, and security. The ins and outs of the phone system, caller services, how things work, what's illegal and what's not, cellular phones, beepers, telephony legislation, the PUC, ISDN, taps, who's listening, and switches. Talking about phones, hacking systems, technical advice, and such is completely LEGAL in the United States -- it's covered by the First Amendment. What's illegal is conspiracy to commit a crime. So if you say something like "Meet me at 2am so we can crack a can" or "I changed my cell phone's number myself" you are criminally liable. Stating "You can crack a can by doing thus-and-so" or "If you wanted to change a cell phone's number, you could do it like so" is perfectly OK. Posting passwords, calling card numbers, or credit card numbers is forbidden on this network. Posting such info will get you booted off the net. |

Re: The Greatest Hacking Book Ever Written!!
Well, everyone knows books really arn't gunna teach you everything (especially the ones which are sold publicly), But i have seen this book around on the shevles, and peeped through it. I have 'Hacking - The art of exploitation' though i beleive its a little in depth for me at the moment. I liked reading 'The Art of Intrusion' just to hear about other peoples hacks. Also 'A complete hackers handbook' (Though i think its a little outdated by now) is quite a good browse through to get grips with particular software programs for cracking or programs like nmap.
Thanks for sharing! (the download is safe, btw)

Re: The Greatest Hacking Book Ever Written!!
oh yeah, no dout about that, from knowing nothing to reading that book and more will certainly get people to some level of knowledge. Though I believe you only really learn something if you practacally do something. Take Programming for instance, you can read all night long for your entire life, but i bet you will learn better trying to program and learning from your mistakes.

Re: The Greatest Hacking Book Ever Written!!
Yeah, I've read some good books on the subject, but like FailedArtifact said, you can't learn it all from books. I recently bought Steal The Computer Book 4.0, and The Art of Intrusion. Funnily enough, Steal This Computer Book mentions Totse, as well as showing off a couple screenshots of it. Yup, that's right. Totse's in a book. A real book.

Yeah, something like that... I don't have the book here at the moment. You're right, not a very good book at all. It's mostly filled with phreaking/hacking history and simple tricks that everybody knows... Still, it had &T in it!

Re: The Greatest Hacking Book Ever Written!!
In this book it talks about whois servers like whois.networksolutions.com and when I do a whois on networksolutions it mentions whois.networksolutions.com but when I type "whois site.com@whois.networksolutions.com" into the gnome shell it says "No whois server is known for this kind of object."
What am I doing wrong here?
