Default Problems with Ubuntu/L eclipse + Java's Wireless Toolkit

my comp: Linux Hardy Heron

I open up Eclipse, make a J2ME cell phone app (saying Hello World), the app runs well, but there is an error: "Locking assertion failure. Backtrace: ..."

In the Backtrace, Linux is pissed off at "/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_03/...", but I have "/usr/java/jdk1.6.0.6/" or something...

Lastly, looking over Google I found 2 solutions: "typing sed -i "..." /usr/java/.../libawt.so" or typing "export LIBXCD_SLOPPY_LOCK=1", but these methods don't work.

Anybody have this problem before? Or maybe I should bitch at the Ubuntu forums ...

The forums for your specific distro are typically much better support than Totse. This should be a fallback after you check there, because not all of us have used X Distro and there's more of a likelihood the thread will just decay into me yelling at someone for saying "linux".

That being said, if you have that environment variable set in one shell, it might not be set in others. Add it to your basrc/bash_profile and log in/out and see if that does anything.

Yea you should probably do a lot more research on the issue you have before coming here. Even on the ubuntu forums you might not find any luck. Many times have i had an issue and checked with ubuntu forums, only to find nobody has the same issue. I find it best by just googling the issue and looking for a solution despite what site it leads me to.

Also.. as you can see, the word "Linux" is forbidden in this realm as we are all under strict orders from thy honourable King Prometheum.

Fear and respect, mortal.

But yes, this is the BEST POSSIBLE SKILL YOU CAN HAVE: just googling it. So many people are so lost when they see any error message with Gnu (I don't know _what_ they did on windows) that they just call me and ask me to deal with it. Typically I just google it and find the answer within five minutes, even though I had no prior experience with whatever broke.

And for the billionth time, the operating system is Gnu. The kernel is Linux. If you want to specify you're using Gnu with the Linux kernel (which is valid -- gnu runs on many kernels) then say Gnu/Linux. Saying Linux to describe the system is like saying Darwin when you mean OS X. The OS is not the kernel.

Prometheum, you're probably of the very few of people i have seen on a tech forum who actually gets offended when people don't use the correct terminology. But in some respect i actually agree with you. I think it's unfair to refer to Linux as the whole operating system without using the GNU prefix. It makes it seem like Linus Torvalds should take all the credit, when realistically that is just wrong.

So keep fighting the good fight, brother. At least when hurd comes around, we wont have to apply the gnu prefix.

What, just call it HURD? Or are you saying the whole thing will be Gnu?

I think Gnu is the best name. It's really clear from Stallman's writing that it's meant to be an over-term, applied to the collection, not just the parts written by him. It credits freedom, not any one person. And really, a Gnu looks so much better than a penguin.

I don't get offended. I'm just pedantic about correcting people. I might be vocal, but in actuality I'm rarely incredibly angry (My God is for that).

Thanks for the encouragement. You can bet your ass I'll keep fighting the good fight. You do the same, the world needs more of us. And since I can't think of endings for any of my posts for shit, here's a nice inspirational Stallman quote:
