Getting my script switched to Ritalin
I'm trying to get my psychiatrist to get me off this Strattera bullshit and write me a prescription for Ritalin so I told him the Strattera was making me real drowsy and really irratable and angry and he said stop taking it for a week then start again and see if its having the same side effects then he'll reevaluate the situation.
What is he trying to find out by making me stop for a week then start up again? This Strattera bullshit doesn't help at all it makes me able to concentrate on one thing at a time but I'm so drowsy I can't study so overall its useless. What should I tell the psychiatrist once the weeks up to increase my chances of him writing a prescription for Ritalin??
He said that Ritalin might have the same side effects because both drugs work on the same neurotransmitters but I know Ritalin won't make me drowsy so maybe I should leave out the part about me being irratable and just tell him it makes me too sleepy and drowsy.
Any ideas?

Re: Getting my script switched to Ritalin
No I don't have tourettes, ticks, anxiety or any of that other weird shit that stimulants might make worse. I've only been on the shit for a week now and he says it can take up to 6 weeks to start working properly but I don't wanna wait that long I don't know why he doesn't just gimme Ritalin and I'll know if it works or not the same day.
This Strattera bullshit makes me feel weird its probably good for people with anxiety and that kinda thing but I don't have anxiety so I should be taking Ritalin instead of dealing with the mad amount of side effects Strattera has.
Its fucked up I have to go to this trouble to try and get a crap drug like Ritalin but anythings better than Strattera.

Re: Getting my script switched to Ritalin
Once I get amped up tomorrow morning I'll give you a nice thorough piece of advice on this. I'd do it tonight but it's 7:15 pm and I have to go to AA in 15 minutes and I don't wanna be up all fucking night anyways.

I learned to make my own meds , many years ago.....alot of study, but it really paid off. I hated school, but finally got my degree in chemistry....stayed in the know....searching everywhere on modifications/organic/inorganic......I am so glad I did this....but this little green cloud follows me around all the time.....on the happy side though...my ADD/ADHD?HYPER kenisis is all in the past....just a happy camper here. Oh....Adderall is far superior to Ritalin

is it really worthwhile to manufacture your own medication? it seems like the cost and effort put into manufacturing a months supply of amphetamines would be significantly greater than the $10 co-pay it costs with decent health insurance

don't worry he didn't pay anything for the education because its imaginary, and for the time being imaginary things are still free.

Re: Getting my script switched to Ritalin
I can't just say "I'd like to be on adderall, write me a prescription" I've been trying to get the prick to put me on Ritalin and he's giving me trouble about it. I can't trust this piece of shit by the looks of things I'm probably gonna have to resort to self medication with dirty street meth but fuck it its 10 times better than this Strattera crap.
I haven't said "I'm not taking Strattera anymore I want to try something else" straight up yet though so maybe I should do that next time I talk to him. I don't know if they even prescribe Adderall in my country when I asked him about medication in the beginning he said "Well theres 2 options, Ritalin or Strattera" and of course he thought it would be best to take the shit option.

Re: Getting my script switched to Ritalin
Heres what I'm gonna say when I talk to him in a few days. "I'm still feeling real drowsy, I'm 10 times more antisocial than I usually am and I have even less motivation than usual and don't feel like doing anything while I'm on it. I'm not willing to take the stuff anymore. I've gone back to drinking 15 cups of coffee a day because thats the only thing that helps. Thats why I think I should go on a stimulant like Ritalin".
That has to work. If that doesn't get him to switch me to Ritalin nothing will. Most of that is actually true anyway. People say Strattera is not a recreational drug it only helps ADD its the opposite with me. I feel all zombie like and get a stomach buzz like I'm on ecstasy but it does nothing to help my concentration.

Re: Getting my script switched to Ritalin
Users should expect to feel tired and groggy for a few weeks. Eventually, the system adapts to the drug and the benefits can be felt. Users are recommended to continue taking the drug for at least three weeks before deciding to discontinue its use.
It might be worth waiting a bit longer.

Say this, but leave out the last part about Ritalin. Act frustrated about the situation, but not angry.
Do you have a job, or go to school? If either of those are applicable for you, tell him how much the Strattera fucks you at work/school and how your difficulties focusing etc. are even more pronounced with the medicine than without.
Basically, never tell him a stimulant stimulates you. Sounds strange, I know, but think about those little brat kids all hopped up on 'phenidate and amps. They sure as fuck wouldn't feed them that shit if it was going to make their hyperactivity and impulsiveness worse...
Say something about how your friends find it odd that coffee/caffeine seems to "have the opposite effect on you". Shit, tell him a little bit of coffee in the evening seems to clear your head so much you actually sleep better with it.
etc. etc. etc.
Oh, what country are you in, by the way?

Re: Getting my script switched to Ritalin
Two of my friends were on Strattera. One was on it for like a week, and the other one was on it for like a month or two. They both said that it was horrible and it fucked with their head. The first kid started on adderall, then to strattera, then got put on ritalin, now he doesn't take anything.
But anyways, this

is definitely true. I don't know if it's the same situation, but when I got put on wellbutrin, my doctor told me that if it made me hyper or anything like that, it wasn't the right medication. So it's probably the same idea here.
But like everyone else has been saying, act frustrated with the situation, and tell your doc all the bad side effects you've been having with Strattera and pretty much just tell him you're sick of it. It should work. And if yer still living at home or whatever, tell your mom (this might sound stupid) about all the bad side effects you're having and shit, then have her tell your doc. Trust me, it'll help.

I'm going to college in September he knows that thats the reason I went to for the test in the first place.
Thats exactly what I'm gonna say. I'll say drinking coffee relaxes me but doesn't make me drowsy and it makes it easier for me to concentrate. Thats the truth.
I'm in Ireland, over here they hardly ever diagnose people with ADD theres only a few psychiatrists in the country that can make a diagnosis and this guy is one of them. The first psychiatrist I went didn't even know what ADD was. He had to look in his book then just recommended me to another psychiatrist.

Yeah its fucked up. It feels good but theres side effects especially in social situations I have no patience for anyone and people asking me questions drives me mad. I popped an extra pill before going to bed last night to see what would happen and it was actually pretty cool. I was having all these realistic dreams but I kept waking up every hour or so.
My mom already rang up the psychiatrist and told him the side effects the shit was having on me but he said the same thing. "Tell him to stop for a week then start again and see if hes having the same side effects then we'll reevaluate the situation".
