lamictal
anybody else take this?
its basically a epilepsy med, with a side effect of helping bi-polar.
i got prescribed it a month ago, and the doc said id have to take it for about 3-4 weeks before i see any changes? whats up with that?
why would it take that long to work? idk the half-life, but wouldnt it most likely be out of your system every night? why the 3-4 week wait for results?
also, i highly doubt this will do anything at all for me. it wasnt my idea/choice to get it, but w/e.....
thoughts? comments?
edit: just read their site, and according to them, one year 44% of adults on lamictal vs 26% on placebo had no manic episodes......pretty low success rate

Not really a side effect. It just treats both :p

A lot of medications take long to adjust to and to begin working properly. I'm not really sure the reasons, but this isn't exactly a special case.

What are you on it for? I take it for seizure disorder and it's working just fine for me.

44% isn't too bad, really, since certain medications work fine for some and don't work at all for others. There are several other medications that treat both, and for many it usually takes a few trials before finding one that suits the person well.

all im going on is what my doc said. he said it started off soley for epilepsy, then when ppl noticed the bi-polar use of it, they started prescribing for both

i know, i was just trying to see if anybody knew the reason.

im on it for the bi-polar, which i dont see myself as. but my mom & dad both supposedly have it, so yah. (i personally think bi-polar is over-diagnosed)

i still think 44% is kinda low. but the fact thats its primarily a maintanince med for bi-polar, is probly part of it
thanks for the post btw, you always have good replys
