I read up until it said the defeat of Japan had been secured before we dropped the atom bombs. No. We would have lost two million men invading the Japanese mainland, and that is exactly what we would have had to do. You could argue that the Nagasaki bomb was a mere show of force, but certainly not the Hiroshima one.
