the biggest one is the size of a ping pong ball. they're dead, shriveled and some have spider webs on them. i was wondering, is there anything other than harvest the seeds that can be done to this plant? would a water extraction/filter be worth it at this point? not too sure how long they've been like this. do poppies always die after they've developed mature seed pods?

If they are in fact the correct type that contain opiates (Morphine, Codeine, Thebaine), Papaver Somniferum aka P. Somniferum, then please read below on just one of the many things that can be done with these. If you are not sure what specie(s) these are, then I suggest finding out, because there is only one [species], P. Somniferum that contains opiate(s); and there A LOT of other(s) [species] that look(s) like them/these P. Somniferum that contain nothing, but sometimes seeds (Some contain no seeds at all) and stems fit for nothing, but a bagel, cake or other type of culinary activity.

If you are not sure, do an image search or some other research to make sure so you don't waste your time, cuz there's nothing like going thought this entire process, then finding out you end up with nothing, but a semi-feel good placebo high :)

Now, as said above, if you are 100% sure these are P. Somniferum, aka the correct ones needed...

Dry 'em out (If they aren't already), throw 'em in a blender (Stems, whole entire pods untouched, etc. - yes there are opiate analogues in every inch of the stem, root, pod, etc. and every other part of the plant) just shove 'em all in there. Blend it into a fairly fine powder, pull out your drip method coffee maker, put the powder you just made into a coffee filter, then into the coffee maker. Add water with lemon juice or perhaps some other type of citric acid (To the water in the coffee maker, maybe a 1:3 or 4 ratio) to help with the opiate analogue(s) extraction; and let it DOES HELP, so if you're a scrapper you most definitely want to do this step, otherwise, it does not HAVE to be done... but then just start the coffee maker, sit back and make some tea.

After this, you can take the remaining mush from the used coffee filter, and put it in a new one and repeat the process if you wish; or you can do it in batches depending on the amount of powder.

Be very careful (Especially if you don't you are opiate naive, meaning do not to opiates on a regular basis or have a very low tolerance), as there have been reported deaths from "poppy tea" and we don't need another one. Start small and work your way up... technically/theoretically speaking... you can always sip a cup, sit back for an hour or two, see how you feel, then drink more till you are where you wanna be... but once you've drank too much... game over... :-\

If they are dry and dead, then so is the "latex".

The way the latex is harvested is when the plant is alive and planted, after the flower petals have fallen off and only the pod remains, you feel the pod to see if you think there is a good amount of give/latex to give up.

If there is, you score it with a razor, scalpel or some other very sharp tool that will not pierce through the actual membrane of the pod, but just the out skin. If you cut too far deep, you will break or puncture the wall within and the latex will seep back into the pod instead of seeping outside of it for harvest.

Now after the pods are scored, 24 hours later, it is checked usually right in the morning as the dew is just dissipating. Making sure there is some there. If so, you let it sit until it is completely or very close to dry and harvest it, allowing to dry into pure opium.

This is done for each pod and each pod will yield very, very little.

Also what most do is use the seeds after the plants die for the year and re-plant them for next years harvest.

If you are planning to get A LOT of use-able opium/heroin, grow some good Tazz's or Hens and Chicks or other good P. Somniferum strain; get the seeds, plant the seeds, research it, know what the fuck you are doing, and you'll need about 100-200 plants to get a good yield each harvest.

Remember... they MUST be alive for any latex harvesting, after this is done, they are dried and sold online as decoration or whatever they sell them for. The reason why so many are available/sold online is because of how many it takes to get the amount of opium needed for others to make a good profit from (Usually), basically why they are usually sold in the hundreds/thousands?

Anyway, read up on it, do your research instead of having other people educate you. I'm feeling particularly lenient tonite so that's why I'm not flaming you.

Im going to have to step in her and say, yes you can extract opium from these "dead" plants. The alkaloids still exist inside of them. Some of the plant fats will be dried up, but that is no matter because the good stuff is in there. Make tea as you would normally, do a double wash and combine your washes, then REDUCE the water via easy heat till you have a tar like mix of alkloids left which can be dried even further for insufflation if eating or smokin aint your thang.

low heat.. you know maybe a double boil setup, or even a heat gun if its a minimal amount of liquid. Try not to overboil but still accomplish evaporation. easy heat

you'd actually be better off with about a 1:1 mixture of water to lemon juice / anything with acetic acid.

Not to step on your toes or sound offensive here, but if you do this, be very careful!

If not done the correct way during harvest season, and instead like this, after they are dead, the Thebaine level can be VERY high and can make you very sick in turn, if not kill you in high enough levels. IMO, not worth it to even try this method. Just stick with the tea this time and go from there, or do some with tea and experiment with the others.

The last thing you want to be is sick...

I would say take them. Wash them off than grind them up and brew it up as a tea, I do this with store bought dried pods.
