Auto-Flowering cannibis propigation ?
So from my understanding you can not simply clone a AF strain so im not sure about propigation of course im willing to make the investment on a original purchase of 10 or so seeds but i don't like cost over time .. my questions is can you propigate AF strains via creating Hermaphrodite's useing the standard GA3 "gibberellic acid" as well i have never produced seed in my life and most importantly not from a Hermaphrodite plant .. does anyone have any good tutorials on how to do such and explaination on when seeds are ready and how to collect them and so on ?
also say if i wanted to propogate a 3-4 foot on average just a few shy of a oz per plant strain roughly how many seeds can i expect from a single plant ? as honestly i want about 2000-8000 seeds in storage :P
no praticular reason of course...
thanks for your time guys,
warweed

I don't have the answers to this, but I will ask my roommate, who is good with the cannabis plant. He recently finished some Diesel Ryder that was amazing, actually.
So I guess, basically, I'm just bumping this for later.

Do keep in mind that Lowryder is part ditch weed. Wouldn't it be a lot simpler to fiddle with lighting than go through the trouble of breeding hermies?

Re: Auto-Flowering cannibis propigation ?
I can tell you that Lowryder strains haven't been feminized, so you should get a couple males out of your bunch. We used those to get some seeds. Just transplant it as soon as it shows sex, take it somewhere else, let it grow for a while, then use the paint brush method to only impregnate what you want to produce seed.
As far as a 3-4 foot plant goes, good luck. His tallest was about 3 feet and that was potted outdoor.

Re: Auto-Flowering cannibis propigation ?
A bit of info:
Quote:
|
"Lowryder #2 is a cross between the autoflowering dwarf, Lowryder, and a variety known for copious resin production, exotic taste and soaring highs (Santa Maria is an indica/sativa mix originally from Brazil). This cross produces compact, bushy very-early flowering plants with prolific budding. The aroma combines the earthy, mossy tones of Lowryder with the wonderfully spicy yet sweet aroma of the Brazilian. This cross is suitable for compact indoor or closet cultivation, as well as outdoors for a very early harvest (end of July to mid August). Yields superior to Lowryder. Flowering is complete after 9 weeks from the seed and it begins since the third. Height is 45-50 cm (17-19 inches). Production is 28-42 grams per plant. This variety is now fully stable and auto-flowering."
|
I don't know about that 28-42 grams per plant claim. I see it producing no more than 28 in a hydro set-up, but then again, i've never grown it out.

I saw 4 Diesel Ryder (NYC Diesel x Lowryder #1) females (one that was pollinated) produce just under a half oz of some very tasty bud. They were grown organically outdoors in pots in zone 5 from the end of May till the beginning of July.
We started with 10, and got 1 male. We kept it for a father. 4 didn't transplant and 1 never germinated.

Indoors with a good HPS (70-150 watt), maybe a 5 gallon DWC setup, some good nutes and good ventilation, I'm sure someone could get those numbers up to 24-28 grams per plant.
I've heard good thing about that diesel ryder.
Peace.

Lowryder is C. Indica and C. Ruderalis. It does have a lower potency than your other normal indicas and sativas but it does not get super huge and auto flowers(as stated), making it ideal for small spaces and eliminates the need for a seperate veg and flowering room.
Is C. Ruderalis northamerican ditch weed? (basically hemp) I have never heard that one. I thought C. Ruderalis originated from russia?

Re: Auto-Flowering cannibis propigation ?
(from Dinix, not 36fuckin5)
The Ruderalis strain is fairly new in the commercial world of cannabis, therefore there are a lot of unsupported theories and 'water-cooler' talk about it. As a land strain (i hate the term ditch weed) it grows mainly in Ukraine (the Crimean Mountains i believe), as a 1-2 foot tall cannabis plant. Because of its small size it isn't good for hemp production, and because of its low cannabanoid content it's not good as a medicinal plant either. The Joint Doctor brought the ruderalis genetics back with him from a trip and started cross-breeding it with an existing strain (the exact strain can be found with some research, but i'm lazy. find it yourself if you don't believe me) giving lowryder.
What makes it special is that its reproductive cycle is not triggered by light. Cannabis Sativa or Cannabis Indica have a built in code to determine when it should make babies. Summer equinox is the magic point (12 hours light, 12 hours dark). Ruderalis has a timer instead. When the plant has been alive long enough it makes babies. Cloning takes advantage of a cannabis plants light detector genes by reversing sexing back into vegitative growth with 18 hours of light or more. With the ruderalis it doesn't give two flying fucks about how much light it gets, when it's old enough it's gonna make babies.
Cloning has been deemed nearly impossible with autoflowering strains, so don't bother. Some theories state that if you grow it in a low temperature enviroment it will prolong sexing long enough to take clones, but the life cycle will be stretched so long that you might as well go with a indica or sativa. AND it hasn't been done yet, only a theory.
Playing with hermaphrodites is risky business. The genes for hermaphrodism are dominant, meaning that you run a high risk of propogating a crop of lots of hermaphrodites.
As stated above, i grew a few Diesel Ryder recently. This is a good personal smoke, easy to grow past seedling stage, but they are vulnerable when they are young. I transplanted 10 by burrying peat moss starter cups in bigger pots and they HATED me for it. half kicked the bucket. I havn't done LR#2, but from the reports i've read in the community Diesel Ryder is the best Autoflower currently available. The high is compairable to any beaster on the market (6-7/10), and the taste is NYCD all the way.
Now then, yield is pathetic. This is a strain that is kinda novelty in a way; it was meant for people living in amsterdam without balconies who could grow this strain in thier window-sill. When it grows out there will be one main cola about 3-5 inches, with 6 or so 1" buds down the side.
For that many seeds, grow one male in the closet with your ladies and plan on having VERY little smokable bud. Keep him around untill there are visible colas on the ladies then yank him. Let the pregnant ladies grow out till they start to die on thier own. Manicure and dry as normal.
My opinion- Autoflowers are the way of the future for personal growers. The black market for pot is out of control, and the most liberating thing you can do is grow your own crop. Don't sell it, don't buy it, just grow it smoke it and share it.
Seperating the best male and growing him away from the girls is optimal. Put a sheet of aluminum foil under him and save his pollen in a masson jar in the fridge. take a fine tip paintbrush and pick which buds you want to impregnant. A better guide to this is easily found on google. but 15-20 seeds at a time is all you should need for your household.
If there's anything you need me to explain in more detail, lemme know.
Peace love and pineapples.

Re: Auto-Flowering cannibis propigation ?
thanks very much for your time and effort into your post it was very educational i like the concept of the low ryder auto flower but i do think your right when it comes to potency and yeild which i do not like .... because i have little space ( small walk in closet) im thinking what i will do is go with a early wonder skunk instead .. it has about the same maturing time the only differance is the yeilds .. i think i will start off with 10 seeds and hope for a strong male and pollenate my babies all that are left .. this should hopfully leave me with about 20-25 seeds per plant .. and hopefully about 8 females so about 200 seeds .. then again i will plant about 50 of them and yank any males except one or 2 with good traights .. and let them goto seed ... this should leave me with about 1100 seeds ..
and then one more final run of about 100 plants that are forced to stay smaller
so hopefully i will have a nice cache of about 3000 + seeds ready for next summers gorilla gardening
once the seeds are secure and stored during the final seed collection about 1 month into the last grow i will start about 100 plants which hopefully will stand about 12 inchs each when the other ones are being harvested for there seed .. then i can drop them in there and grow them out for bud :)
so basically a sea of green seed production then the last run at 6 months the grow room will be wiped clean hopefully getting any pollen .. and the new babeis will go in for budding :)
all vegatative matter after seeds collected will be dryed and stored more then likly for oil production ..
thoughs ? concerns and reliability ?

Since we are talking about lowryder #2, I thought I might hijack this thread a little and ask if anyone can recommend a legit vendor for seeds?
No asshole, there's no source discussion, seeds are illegal in a handful of countries (Amerika) and if the question DIDN'T break the rules you could post your own fucking thread.

Re: Auto-Flowering cannibis propigation ?
...I would like to know exactly how to produce ones own seeds.
Buy a pack of seeds that you want more of. Example: get a 10 pack of NCYD (New York City Diesel-variety). You payed a pretty penny for these seeds and you only have 10, some of which are bound to be male. What to do?
Grow them out, all of 'em. Induce 12/12 flowering. Monitor closely for preflowers and separate males from females keeping 12/12 flowering cycle. Once males produce flowers (pollen sacks) and they split open, collect pollen gently with small soft artist's paint brush. Deposit into small vial for safe transport/storage.
Take your pollen to the female room. Your ladies should be well into the flower stage also. They should be showing pistils (the white hairs that shoot out of the buds everywhere). Using the artist's brush, gently dip into the pollen and brush/dab/sprinkle it onto the pistils.
Thats it.
The pistils will recede in a few days taking the pollen with them. And in a few weeks you'll have buds bursting with seeds!
IMPORTANT: After each grow you MUST wash the room top to bottom to remove any traces of pollen. You want your next grow to be "fresh" as it were.
Peace.

as long as this stays more on producing your own, and obtaining them that way, rather than turn to a source posting nightmare its going to stay open...
theres good info, and a good discussion to be had...
to answer warweed's question, pollinate your females however you perfer, and pick the buds which will have your seeds. the white ones are pretty much garbage, the brown ones save.

You forgot to mention that, for seed production, you might as well let the buds over-ripen. You're not going for smoke, so you can't let the seeds mature too much.

The stripes mean the seeds are not ripe. Those stripes will rub off, they're actually pieces of flower stuck to the seed. Bacteria and mold can feed/grow on these stripes and kill the seeds. At that point they're also not fully developed, so they're more susceptible to infection. Collect seeds when the seed pods are split and the seeds are falling out or nearly falling out, or come out easily if you shake or move them around.
This would make the bud less energetic, but possibly more potent. If it's a potent strain anyway it doesn't really matter.
