I feel like my problems go beyond the "typical" teen depression. I may be wrong but at any rate -I have a lot of trouble dealing with the symptoms and last night I was contemplating going to the psych to try to get some drugs. I'll post the problems I have and I want your opinion about what the doctor might prescribe me -amphetamines, benzos, somethings without any recreational potential, or no medicine at all. I live in Ontario, Canada and I don't even know how commonly these drugs would be prescribed here, if at all.

Anyway, some things I was planning to complain about:

- Depression
- Poor body image
- Self loathing
- Lack of motivation
- Social anxiety
- Difficulty concentrating at school (due to constantly thinking about my problems)
- Inexplicable fatigue in the middle of the day (even when I get enough sleep and sit on my ass all day I experience this. Happens in school too. I always sleep through afternoon classes)
- Hunger pans associated with emotions (I get hungry when I am bored, angry/frustrated, sad, excited. This leads to weight gain which only helps to fuel my poor body image)

I realize that anxiety is usually treated with benzos but I'm hoping to score some amps because I personally prefer uppers rather than downers and I'm worried that benzos would just make me 100 times more lethargic than I already am. Is it possible that they might give me the amps anyway seeing as how they make me feel better by raising my dopamine levels anyway and give me the boost I need?

What is likely to happen? I could always lie but I have some real problems and between times when I would abuse whatever drug I'd get from the doc I plan to actually take it therapeutically. Also, I feel that the more honest I would be, the more likely I would get support from my parents so that they don't think I am some sort of fucked up junkie (which I'm not) because they know all too well what sort of a bitch I am and they'd probably be happy to see an end put to it.

Anyway, I'm rambling on. What do you think, BLTC?

He's right. Teens never get benzos. Chances are - if you're looking to get it treated - you'll just get yourself a nice fat sack of useless SSRIs. They've been proven over and over again to be ineffective, and yet they're still one of the most widely-prescribed drugs on the planet.

Here's a suggestion: If anybody ever tries to tell you that you need SSRIs or MAOIs, you don't.

It's highly, highly unlikely that they'll give you uppers for anxiety. If you really want those, go for the ADD angle. It's easy to tack that on to your current symptoms; many people (myself included) legitimately have both. Most likely, they'll start you on an SSRI. They're no fun from a getting-high stand point, but they can do wonders to alleviate exactly the symptoms you listed. If you're lucky, they'll give you benzos as well. If not, just wait a month and complain about "breakthrough anxiety" that goes beyond the scope of the SSRI.

So I checked Wiki and it sounds like I have "atypical depression" which will score me a... MAOI? FUCK!

"Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) are a class of powerful antidepressant drugs prescribed for the treatment of depression. They are particularly effective in treating atypical depression, and have also shown efficacy in smoking cessation."

Atypical depression:

"Atypical Depression (AD) is a subtype of dysthymia and Major Depression characterized by mood reactivity — being able to experience improved mood in response to positive events. In contrast, sufferers of "melancholic" depression generally cannot experience positive moods, even when good things happen. Additionally, atypical depression is characterized by reversed vegetative symptoms, namely over-eating and over-sleeping."

I might as well just lie and leave out the fact that I am depressed. Would that get me amps? If I just said I was tired during the day for no reason and I overeat? Or would they go more in depth and ask me why? Would they end up prescribing a MAOI anyway?

Also, I can't straight out pretend I have ADD. My parents know I don't have ADD and frankly, I don't want anyone thinking I have ADD.

That's the only thing that'll get you amps. But most of the time it'll just get you some shitty methylphenidate product. Unless, of course, you're really, REALLY fat.

i never understood why amps are never perscribed for depression. they eliminate lethargy, bring down your appetite, and raise dopamine levels...perfect!

no your wrong. I said that I had horrible anxiety and was prescribed 60 .5 xanax. then I said they wern't doing anything so she bumped it to 1, I went back not to long ago and now I get the 2mg bars, as well as valuim 10mg you just gotta find a chill psych that will give you what you want

I'm a senior in high school, not 14 years old and I've had enough willpower and judgment to turn down drugs up to this point so I don't see myself becoming an addicted burnout. I'm not particularly excited about twitching like a cracked out nigger from the withdrawal symptoms benzos cause or staying up for days tweaking on amphetamines.
