Default A question about your reputation and new beginnings

i was just wondering about if people here, if given the chance, would change their reputation about who they are in terms of substances they used. like if you are known to you friends, classmates, coworkers, etc. to be a stoner, coke head, someone into hardcore stuff (expecting you to do anything you can get your hands on), bored substance abuser (will smoke/ inhale anything you find), space case (because of drugs), alcoholic/drunk, or really straight-laced, etc, would you change that image if given the chance, like moving and meeting new people, etc? since it's hard to sometimes change what a lot of people already think of you, but if you were going to meet a whole new set of people, would you change it, or get back in with the same type of crowd, or try to be more extreme?

so i guess i'm wondering what your opinion is. have you gone through this type of change? how old are you now (if giving an opinion) or when you went through a change like that? what is/was your reputation? what did you change it to/ want it to be?

I'd probably try to be really extreme (cross dressing, british accents, odd habits and tics) for a while, let them get used to me, and then let them in on the joke, once I got bored of freaking them out.

Just mess with their heads a bit, that's all, I've always wanted to do that.

I love my reputation. Eh, well, most of the time. Except when I get random calls at 3 AM asking what this or that pill is, if it's ok to take this with that, how to help someone in a bad trip, etc etc etc. The list goes on forever.

But it's all worth it, because finally, when I speak, people listen. And I don't think it's the people so much as my ability to lay things out without getting too technical. It's taken years to get this far. Before it was always people just nodding and being bored, but now I have people really getting excited about things, and asking questions GOOD questions.

My reputation is that of a "know it all".

When people have a question on damn near anything, I end up getting a call.

Sometimes it is in front of the wrong people though, and watching their puzzled looks as I explain some drugs action or something is hilarious.

Like at work, my brother calls me asking about some pill and what it does, so I explain, and next thing I know it's like a fucking pharmacy Q&A in there.

I like it though, because I can help people, educate them, and promote safe drug usage, whether the drugs be licit or illicit.

It's been some time since I've cared about my reputation.

Once you stop constantly worrying about what other's think of you is when you can truly grow into who you are.

Too many people wear masks to better fit in to what they believe to be socially acceptable, and stray away from who they are.

I have a reputation amongst everyone who actually hangs out with me on a regular basis as an alcoholic, there's nothing I can really do about it, and honestly the things that cause me to drink concern me way more than what people think about me. People can either accept I'm a drunk and join me for a drink, or fuck right off.

I've been told that my reputation precedes me. People see me as a do-anything junkie, which is irritating and false. The only public information about my drug use is how much I smoke weed, that I own a hookah (I only use it with tobacco and it's a big hit at parties), and a few people know that I've tried psychedelics (acid once, shrooms twice). I do other shit, but it's not very often and only a few trusted friends know about it. People expect me to be high or fucked up all the time and wonder how I'm not in constant trouble. I don't care about having a drug rep, but I just hate that people expect me to bring trouble.

Of course I would. But, then again, I live in a place where drugs are pretty much blindly and dogmatically hated by everybody. There's only one person I know who's actually okay with what I do, and will help me in my ambitions.

Society is fucked up right now, and because everybody knows that I'm involved in these 'terrible' activities, they'll do everything they can to stop me. I can only imagine how much easier my life would be if I had this same mindset in 4th grade, when I first decided to look up 'LSD' in the encyclopedia....

Ahh, but enough reminiscing about what made me who I am. I suppose it's a 'curse' of sorts, for now. But still, I can't wait for the day when being knowledgeable about the subject is no longer something to be hated or feared by the public.

I'm just known as a druggie, it might as well be my middle name. Nothing less nothing more.

I don't really like this label, not because of the actual word, it's just the accusing way people say the word that irritates me. Almost like there's a subtle insulting undertone everytime it's mentioned.

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.

Anymore I'm usually classified as a stoner. I don't like that at all. I hate being lumped into the group of douchbags with long greasy hair and nasty clothes that smell bad. I actually preferred my tweaker image...

Same here. It's great when you have to explain the effects of salvia or something in front of co-workers.

^ true

on "new beginnings" i weighed 268 lbs by the beginning of 8th grade, i woke up one day, realized i was a fat piece of shit and lost all sense of self-confidence and the ability to eat in front of people, then i would get up at 6 every morning before school, without telling anyone (I was terrified at the fact someone, even my parents would notice i was putting effort into losing weight, stange but true) and i would run my ass off for 30-45 mins, and 6 months later i lost 87 lbs, but i cant even describe what sitting in my head during all of that was like, ha.
