Laptop for College?
Hi, I'm looking to get a laptop for college and I've had my eye on this, mainly because of my budget, which is around 600 dollars.
Here are the specs if you don't feel like looking at the link:
Intel Core 2 Duo 1.83Ghz processor
3GB RAM
250GB HD
14.1" Screen
It's an HP, and it's 629 bucks. Is it a good deal, or what? Is the processor fast enough? Are there better deals to be had for around 600?
I'm mainly going to be using it for Internet and Microsoft Word, and maybe a couple other Office programs if my classes call for it.
Thanks.

You mean porn and games. Why would you need 3 gig ram and a dual core processor for word processing?
Anyway, shouldn't battery life and weight be a greater consideration than how many gigs of ram it's got.

STFU
OP, I think that looks like a pretty good deal to me. I'm pretty new to the laptop market, but I think it would be safe to say you would be happy with it. I'm around the same budget as you and I'm having a time figuring out what to get. It seems in the 500-700 dollar range there is alot of either real shit computers or some pretty awesome deals.

Re: Laptop for College?
I'd look at the Dell Inspiron E14xx series. They are great builds and I have one and have recommended them to a few friends who love them. Personally I would avoid HP. They were once a great company but now have lots of problems and SHIT customer service.

I think differently. At work we use HPs, Toshibas and Dells, the HPs are ALWAYS coming in with problems.
Order of quality (Best to worst):
1) Dell Vostro
2) Toshibas
3) HPs
4) Old Dell Latitudes (build quality of the keyboards mainly)
That's just from experience here mind, you may have better luck.

This.
You probably will be satisfied with it, if it is just for applications like word and just general office/college use.
But i would personally avoid intel processors despite the fact that it's dual core. This laptop that i'm on has an intel dual core processor and when it comes to watching movies with high frame rates, it kinda can't handle it. But like i said, if it's just college use, then yea it would be perfectly fine. But if you plan to use it for other activities that put more demand of on the CPU then it's probably not wise to go with intel. Try amd.

Re: Laptop for College?
MY grandmother just bought a 14" Sony Vaio. The thing is fucking nerdgasmic, of course I had to tone it down to be more "Grandma friendly" but even so, with vista looking like windows 98 and all that, the thing is fucking amazing. It cost her $1200 with the extra insurance and damage plans, but without the plans it's $800. Look on vaio's website, it's pretty nice. Only about 3, 4 pounds as well.
