Reformat
So i have XP Media center, and I want to reformat the box but of course, when I bought the computer the manufaturer did not include back up disks, and I called HP today and they said I could get some from them, no problem... "We just need your credit card number," Well fuck you buddy, paid good money for this system back then and you wouldn't even include the cd's incase something did happen.
SO then I thought about torrenting it, but I keep being a bit confused on the exact process of doing it. IT's never like they're regular ISO's. And I have the CD that's on the side of the computer, but I need to reformat, anyone want to fill me in on this? Thanks guys.

Re: Reformat
Say you wanted to download Ubuntu Linux off of the internet, burn it to a disk, and use it, your first stop would probably be this site. That site is run in Sweden, a country which has no laws against running a website used in the piracy of intellectual content. Of course Ubuntu's license has no restrictions on the dissemination of the software, so its perfectly legal to download and burn hundreds of copies to throw from balconys.
The "DOWNLOAD THIS TORRENT" link you see there will let you... download a torrent. Use uTorrent
That will let you download the disk image of Ubuntu, which you can burn using various instructions on the internet.
Now say you wanted to substitute "Windows Xp" for ubuntu, well, that would be illegal.

Re: Reformat
To answer the OP: You can call HP and bitch. Call in the DMCA Section 117. It states that you have a right to a backup of your software you paid for. Tell them their automated backup disc maker didn't work and CD's will be on their way. Save for that try a torrent.
Now for Lundmark - Stop being a dick. You have jumped on OP's for asking valid questions multiple times recently and quite frankly, it's getting old.

Re: Reformat
Seems you missed a point, I know and use torrents, and I know how to burn iso's. The thing is I have a class which requires windows, some stuipd integration bullshit, and I already have a damn windows box. It's just so damn loaded with viruses and shit after I let my roommate borrow it, and no virus scanner programs are finding them or removing them. Etc. etc. I wish they just would send fucking backup cd's like they did with my last ones. Why should I have to pay for cd's which I SHOULD have gotten with the system, which itself isn't distributed anymore anyway.
EDIT: And yeah, I guess it is technically illegal, which is sad, I guess I"ll call microsoft tomorow, give them my serial and box ID and see if any of their phone goons has any sympathy or a way I can get this done.

How was he being a dick? He just explained (but in a legally worded way) how the OP should get the XP CD.

Re: Reformat
Ok I got rif of all the shit manually... which took FUCK FUCKING EVER... Then realized about 20 mins after getting done with that headache that if you pushed F11 on bootup that you can actually restore from the partition without having any hardcopies of disks. So I did that. I mean it's cool that it worked and everything, but if I suffered a hard drive failure, then I'd be out a hard drive, and they'd still try to fucking pork me 75 bucks for an outdated OS, while trying to upsell me hard on the shitty ass annoying vista. CAZE IT"S L$$7 YAR! Fucking whores.

Well quite frankly, Im not. Because quite frankly I remember when I tried getting help on how and where to download pirated software. Quite frankly, its fucking impossible to get a straight answer from anyone because they are paranoid that their board/channel/ftp will get shut down. If you think a straight answer is condescending you should probably stay off the internet.

Quite Frankly, you irritate me and you carry a condescending tone. I doubt I'm the only one who feels that way too.

Actually i really this op was really funny, i knew what was coming in the end but still quite entertaining to read.
Anyway, its nothing new even a single Google search will give you access to illegal stuff.
Search for:
Torrent (insert something here)
That's it.
