ok so there are some poppies growing on campus. thinking of taking advantage.
i don't know much about plants, so here comes the nub ?;
are there any tell tale signs that tell that plant in question actually has opiates in it?

it has red flowers and smallish pods. i took photos of both but my cord is at the house so they'll be posted asap

since they're in the middle of a pretty big area (lots of people), would it be cool to cut the pods off and try to milk them while they're still fresh?

You could cut them (with the stems) and put them in water, then rush them home and milk them, but I think you'd have to be fast. Depending on the number of plants there and the size of the pods, you probably won't have enough.

As for identification, papaver somniferum will have slightly blueish, lettuce-like leaves that twist slightly around the stalk. Check out www.poppies.org if that didn't answer your question.

from what i understand somniferum aren't the only type that contain opiates. i have enough time to milk them for sure. why put them in water though? do i milk them like normal except upside down or something? pics coming shorty...

unless you upload pictures there is no way we can help you identify whether or not they are papaver somniferum. might as well try though. i suggest you try to extract the morphine (put milky substance, or opium in cold water and the white stuff at the top is the morphine. collect it and smoke up.

those actually look like some small poppies the top of them looks like p. somniferum and so do the flowers give it a shot.

so i lanced them. the latex is mostly white with a little brown. a few droplettes came out instantly after the cuts on each pod. how much time should i give them? is it cool to smoke without further processing? should i cut all around the pod or just one side with a few parallel cuts? thanks for your help so far

a few parallel cuts towards the bottom + gravity should get most of that shit out.

na sorry i'm not posting pics of my lanced pods. but it is working nicely. i went back and got like 2wice as many as the first time. the first time made a thing about the size of a match head.

You want papaver somniferum poppies man, ie, opium poppies with alkaloids in them which will get you high. Might as well try lancing these pods, and any others you can find around the place, and then collect the latex n make opium. I'm not quite sure of the timescale, but you need to let the pod "bleed" the opiate alkaloids out, whilst continuing to produce more. Once you've got some "opium" you can test it to see if it's remotely psychoactive.

Obviously, a more foolproof solution is to grow opium poppies in your own garden, or in some location where you can cut them, when they're grown.

I've got scores of them in my garden as we speak. They are mildly psychoactive, but I'm afraid your gonna be disappointed, bro.

The best thing you can do with those little bastards is to cut a bunch, a couple inches down from the pod (lots - dozens if possible)...don't worry about wasting any good stuff, it's not so important with these type of poppies.

Take them home and make pod tea while they are fresh (within the day).

Yes, it tastes like shit, but this is the best way to consume these little dudes. Drink slowly, just in case of the off chance they are particularly strong (probably not).

PS - wait until they are pretty 'full'. Check by giving the pod a little squeeze. When they are ready, they'll be squichy, not hard like the immature pods.

thanks for the advice. but i've already smoked it, not as disappointed as you thought, i just can't wait to harvest more. i'll try the tea out if a bigger batch os this stuff doesn't satisfy me. nothing wrong with free drugs!!!
