Default List some of your best and worst jobs!

Put down some shit about your previous/current jobs. It could possibly help somebody in a decision of where to work. And it could be entertaining and stuff.

Top 3 Worst

O'Charlies - Busser
- Cleaned up other peoples shit for min + tips. Everyone that worked there was cracked out assholes. Quit after 1 day.

Lowes Foods Supermarkets - Cashier - Stand in 1 place for 8 hours. It hurts your feet worse than if you're lifting shit all day. Had to ask to go to the bathroom and then wait for like 20 minutes. 7.50 an hour, fuck that. Quit after about 3 weeks.

Walgreens - Service Clerk - Deal with shitty trashy customers. I didn't know this many assholes existed. Stand on feet in same place or walk around moving shit around. 8.00 an hour for overnight. Probably going to quit as soon as I find another job or within a month.

Top 3 Best

GNC - Sales Associate - Sold vitamins and workout supplements. Made awesome commission on top of min wage. Normally made around 11-13 an hour for doing jack shit except talking. After 10 months things got fucked up my manager got fired and they brought in a bitch to get rid of the rest of us.

Cases up - Merchandiser - Fucking awesome. Nobody tells you what the fuck to do. Your given a route of stores to stock beer in. You run that route 5 times in 3 days. Write down your times and bring it to the boss, he pays you. Thats it. You get paid every week at 8 an hour, you get raises quick if you do your job right. Quit because never had time to do shit on weekends and lifting 1000 + cases of beer every weekend starts to fuck up your hands/back. He said I could come back if I ever wanted, and I'm starting to think I might have too.

Great American Cookies - everything
- Pretty cool. Everyone that worked there was pretty awesome, my friend worked there for a while. All the cookies you want and rolling out cookie dough and baking stuff was kind of fun. Basically minimum wage. Got fired after 1 year for giving out broken cookies to friends, even though we just throw them away, and EVERYONE does it. Its probably because I backtalked the new manager.

Top 2 worst:

Hauphrahaus fine Bavarian cuisine: Dish washer. I was 15, so I got less than min wage...

Six Flags New England: Started out ok. Had fun. Than I turned 18. They turned me into a slave. I went from 38 hours a week, to 80 hours a week!!! But I figured Id get a nice paycheck. NOPE! SEASONAL JOBS DONT PAY OVERTIME!!! So I quit when they refused to put me to "normal" hours

Top 2 best:

United States Marine Corp. nough said.

Local dealership: repairing upper-middle class peoples cars.

Worst job ever.
World Parrot Refuge.-8 hours, starting at 7, of cleaning, and re cleaning cages, (by cleaning i mean, scrubbing shit off concrete floors) while asshole birds fly around trying to bite you, I've had like 6 swarm me at a time. Toughed it out for 6ish months. never going back, ever.

Top 3 Worst

Process Worker. I was on a factory line making hospital beds. All the people there were old and slow. Nobody gave a fuck. Hot shed. Had to stand in one place screwing bolts in the same place bed after bed for $12 an hour. Fled at lunchtime on my first day.

Tile Factory Cleanup. This massive tile warehouse had been run into the ground and there was a six month contract to clean it up. I was on the team of cleanup guys. Monotonous work broken by fun parts where you got to throw tiles at each other. Semi-decent pay. Basically quit because the management didn't give a shit whether you slacked off or not and seeing as I find it impossible to slack off in labouring jobs I got pissed at useless fucks that were working alongside me doing nothing and getting paid the same. And I had to catch two buses and a train every day to and from work.

Car Detailer. Washing cars at a Premium Honda Dealership. Work was easy, got to drive around nice cars. Work was shit though. Driving cars get horrendously boring after only being able to drive them for 200mtrs. Had to shine cars in the showroom using this spray that you could basically feel dissolving your lungs. Quit the third day after finding out was only being paid $10.50. The manager was amazed, "I was going to recommend you for a mechanic apprenticeship after your first year if you did alright", I was like "I don't want to be a mechanic though and I can earn more than you right now labouring so why the fuck would I stay here?", "Oh. Okay then."

Top 3 Best

Bartender at Dive Uni Bar. This was great. Although starting off sucked, soon I had the system beat. The place was this dive uni bar run by a Chinaman. He was a cool dude though. During the day the place would be deserted except for about six old retired professionals who were alcoholics basically. Oh and there was one artist. They would tell some crazy stories while I wrote. I wasn't doing much with my life at that point apart from partying so I could drink and do drugs whenever, wake up to be in at work at eleven hungover and fucked. Was fed everyday and ate food off plates in the kitchen if I was hungry in between. Got to the point where I was drinking all the time behind the bar. Coke+Bacardi+Lemon slice was undetectable as employees were able to drink post mix all they wanted.

The Saturday shift was the best. Open at midday, noone around, I would just drink and play pool with mates or whoever came in.

Wool Presser. Most of you here wouldn't know what this is. Basically country work on farms using a machine to press wool into bales and 'pen up' sheep for the shearers. Hard, extremely physical work that paid excellent. Was making $25hr at one point. Never made under $20hr. I was under twenty making this money mind you. Great working environment (the people). Drinking booze after a hard, hot days labouring is one of life's great feelings.

Purchasing Officer. My current occupation. Got this as an out to labouring work to fill in six months. Decent pay that has already gone up. Get to spend all day using the internet in an air conditioned office. Good perks. Room to move upward and make, possibly, a lot of money if I want it. On train line.

Worst:

US Navy. It has it's plusses and minuses, but if I think my boss is a stupid asshole I think I should be able to tell him so without going to jail for it.

Convenience Store Manager. I'm not a people person. Too much work for too little pay.

Best:

Arcade attendant on the oceanfront. Got paid $8 an hour (back in the mid '80s) to keep the place clean, make change, play video games, and watch the girls go up and down the street wearing bikinis.

Computer technical support. People would call up pissed off because their computer wasn't working. By the time I was finished with them, they were happy because I took care of the problem. Great pay and benefits, and the people I worked with generally had better than average intelligence and interests similar to mine.

Now thats the kind of job I kind of want. I love computers, and I want to be around other fuckers that talk about computers. Although I'd probably get pissed with the ignorant assholes on the phone.

Best

Dish Network - best job I've had. Was there 1 1/2 years. You get your route & equipment in the morning, grab your van and go. You work rotating 3 1/2 to 4 days a week, so you're off 3 - 3 1/2 days every week, and you can still net around 60 - 70 hours a week. I was getting $14.50 an hour, plus bonuses. My last check was in Mid-May, and my gross was around $20k so I was looking at $40k this year. The bad points: Hours were 6:15 am - whenever you finished, usually around 10 pm but sometimes 2-3am. Rough work, you're outside 80% of the job, and the other 20% is split between being in the house, the attic, or the crawlspace. The summer heat can kill you. The winter can kill you. I've literally felt my brain baking in my head. They give you gloves to wear in the cold, yeah right. Ever try to work with rg-6 connectors and cold, stiff cable with gloves on? The benefits sucked too, decent 401k and stock options, good overtime, but that's it. Cool people, for the most part. I fucked it up though when a police checkpoint busted me with a roach in the van. A fucking roach, and I lost my job and my license for 6 months. Getting it back on Christmas Asshole cops..... I'll be trying to get this job back once I have my license again, but they probably won't take me.

Amusement Sales - this was cool. Hours were 9-5, once a week you're on call. Basically, you drive around fixing arcade games, video poker games, jukeboxes, cigarette machines & pool tables. Some of our clients were strip joints Lost that job after 3 weeks when I got the notice from the dmv about losing my license. They said I can go back after I get it back though, assuming the position is still available. Only bad point about that job is no raises or overtime, so once you're out of training you're maxed out on your pay. $565 a week plus a quarterly bonus of around $2-3k, not too bad. Good medical insurance too, and employee discount on store merchandise (ahem, pool tables).

SmartSource - computer tech - this was a cool gig. They landed me a job with Perot Systems upgrading laptops with new sales software. $18 an hour for sitting on your ass isn't bad. me & about 3 other guys in a hotel room, with all the soda, coffee, and cookies we wanted. Only bad thing was the gig was 4 days and that was it. A contract job, but maybe something else will come along.

Worst

Stokes Contracting - By far the worst I've ever had. Did you hear about that sugar refinery that blew up in Savannah, GA? Well, this is the company doing the clean-up. The place was a dungeon, only it was above ground. The place was blackened through & through, and stunk to high hell. One dude on our crew was puking at the end of the day. Holes in the floors, water pooled up everywhere. It rained, and the hole place leaked. There were dudes there who just came out of 15-year stints in prison. Climbing up and down maintenance ladders, scraping ash off the floor with shovels, loading it into buckets. All for $10/hour and no benefits? Fuck that, I quit after my first day. Not to mention I would have had to drive back & forth to that job on a suspended license. Not worth it at all...

Convenience Store cashier - My current job It's actually not too bad, I don't mind the people. Only shitty thing is it's $7 an hour, and I'm 36 years old. After making $14.50 at Dish Network, this is pretty bad. Only reason I'm there is because it's down the street so I can ride my bike instead of driving. Suspended license and all... I'll be working the graveyard shift, so I can keep my days open for something else to come along. Not to mention that some of the guys from Dish will probably see me working there....

TAG, The Answer Group - Computer Support. The job itself was ok, I love computers and it was a geat feeling to get a pissed off customer on the phone, and after you fixed their problem they're a happy camper. My problem with the job was, the other dudes there were all egotistical. Everyone there was soooo smart. Go to break with 'the guys' and it's a fucking brag-fest about their machines at home, how many problems they've fixed today. One dude's like "I'm kicking ass, I ordered 3 new monitors today". I'm thinking, dude you suck, I fixed 5 machines today and I didn't have to order anything. Have the techs there were idiots, you didn't need to know shit to get that job. In fact, during our 2-week training course, they ask "how many of you have never touched a computer before" and 3 or 4 hands go up. All they teach you is to use their database to look shit up and read it to the customer. A monkey can do that. We had a hurricane that knocked out our power, and nothing was up except for the phones. No database, we had to use our experience. 75% of the techs went on break for the night. I sat at my desk and took calls, I hardly ever took breaks anyway. Why? Because when you're phone is set to Aux so it won't take calls, you get minimum wage for that time. Going to the bathroom? Minimum wage while you're gone. Fuck that, it's why I left. I made it three months then couldn't handle their stupid games. That, and I've never seen so many assholes under 1 roof.

Call center jobs suck as a general rule. Whether it's tech support or telemarketing or anything else, if it involves a room full of phones it's going to suck.

Not true. I work as inbound customer service (paging services usually) and it's by far the best job I've ever had. Mind you, I work night shift so I earn a lot more than the job is worth.

Cool Re: List some of your best and worst jobs!

Worst Jobs:

1: Fire safety salesman: I did this for only 2 days before I quit. I had to go around to small towns and host dinners at hotels where you would basically tell people all this shit about fire safety, then try to convince them to let you come to their house by offering a free dinner party so you could try to sell them overpriced fire extinguishers and smoke alarms. You also got people to do referrals for discounts and shit. God that sucked.

2: Call center agent, for Convergys. If you know this name you know exactly how bad it was.

3: call center agent, for Intouch. I worked for Nintendo (not as good as you'd think, it was an outsourced call center so we got all the shit, none of the good stuff like free games or being able to play games at work) Tickets now (professional ticket scalping, it was a sales job with no commission and really shady practices. I got sick of explaining to people why they were charged 5 times the price of crappy seats that they could buy at the door. Also why they had to pay a $15 shipping fee when we e-mailed tickets to them) and a few other companies.

4: Call center agent, for a local pizza place. Tons of work, little pay, little hours. God call centers suck.

Best Jobs:

1: Movie store clerk. Best job ever, I worked a shitty hole in the wall corner video store (right out of clerks) and got paid to watch movies. I'd still be there if I got paid more.

2: 7-11 clerk. I had a lot of fun doing this, I worked the graveyard shift every night and got free slurpees. I'd usually go to work baked and just chill all night listening to the radio and selling the odd pack of smokes.

3: Repo man. My current job now. I work for a rent to own place and have to repo dead beats. Its pretty fun and I have a lot of adventures in the ghettos dealing with dirtbag bogans.
