Permanent Alterations in Perception
Has anyone noticed that after you have had some particularly intense experiences of altered states, that you carry on an altered perception after its long over? I have done very few perception altering drugs, only cannabis and 3rd plateua DXM, but I now seem to find life to be a beautiful thing, and its hard to get down and depressed about things because life and nature just seems so pure and full of new things. Alot of people dont get me now, when I become fascinated with everyday occurances, and talk about strange concepts. I dont feel brain fried in the least, just awakened. Am I just crazy?

Re: Permanent Alterations in Perception
No, you are not crazy.
The beautiful thing about psychedelics is the things you learn, and the new perceptions you've gained stay with you pretty much for the remainder of your life.
This was something my dad told me last summer, when he knew I was doing a lot of psychedelics. He tripped his fair share of times on a variety of different things back in the 70s, so he definitely knows what he's talking about.
He told me I don't need to do as much as I've been doing because the things you learn on acid stay with you.
So, I hope that answers your question.

I think it is a really immature point of view to think that what substance I take should dictate jack shit. Too much focus on the drug, the drug won't just magically show you stuff, you have to already look at the situation in a certain way, IMO.

You think a bunch of cough syrup can change your views on life?
It has everything to do with which drugs you take, they take you to a specific place and impact on your life MUCH more.

I don't even think that the drugs is the reason why your 'awakened' so to speak. Maybe they helped, but perhaps that awakening was you all along, except you didn't realize it?

I didn't say it was pussy, just that its about as inspiring as getting drunk. The only reason people think its psychic cause it fucks with your vision.

Re: Permanent Alterations in Perception
What the fuck? Have you even done dxm? I've had more life-changing realizations on dxm then i have on acid. (I've only done lsd twice, but still) Also don't hate on such a beautiful herb, weed's great and smoking everyday has certainly changed my view on things and it continues to even when i take tolerance breaks.

DXM is a fucking shit drug. I've done it twice, each time was 600mg and it made me feel and act like a zombie. I couldn't think on any level and felt like shit cause i just kept thinking how stupid and immature it sounds to get high from cough syrup.

Re: Permanent Alterations in Perception
Low doses of DXM are quite recreational -- even for me, one who is prone to bad trips, psychedelic freakouts, and sober anxiety attacks. Robo-tripping and playing laser tag fucking rocks.
My dabblings with higher doses haven't induced anything remotely spiritual, but that's most likely because I was only at 2nd-3rd plateau.
I don't believe drugs really reveal anything to you. Drugs change the way your mind works and induce certain feelings, causing you to conjure novel ideas and associations. Some of these stick with you beyond the trip.

Re: Permanent Alterations in Perception
Weed.
The first time I tried it I did in a heater (small metal tube you fill with weed) and it did nothing.
The next time I tried it, about 2 months ago, we had a big joint loaded with Hashish (that gum-like thing from the female flower buds in the hybrid plant), which is super concentrated. I hit that one really hard, I myself smoked up like half the joint and inhaled my puffs to the very last corner in my lungs and held it in forever.
I got so damn high I just couldnt believe things. Time seemed eternal and I felt I did a thousand things all at once. Also, It made regular cigarettes taste like shit for some reason.
I had to go have a leak and was just amazed how I would just keep the stream for ages. I kept having this fear that I would piss my jeans cause I didnt know what the fuck was going on.
Still now, I cant avoid checking if I didn't when Im drunk, although I know I didn't.

Wow, I thought about this exact thing last night after getting very very very high. I realized and remembered things from the past that were much more important in the grand scheme of my life than I thought they were. I realized how great nature really is. It sounds stupid now explaining it in words but the feelings I got were no joke. I loved the feeling I got last night, and the sad part is I can't feel that with just anyone. Alot of stupid people just smoke to get "stoned" and go to fast food places and drive around. I've grown out of that stage and want to focus on self-realization, nature, art, and music while high from now on.

Re: Permanent Alterations in Perception
DXM never gave me an eye opening spiritual moment. Not once in the many times I messed around with it in High School. It sort of just placed my mind here, while my body went there, and to be honest did more harm for my mind than good. Marijuana however, did wonders for my perception on life. Then came LSD and completely rewired my brain and changed my views on life, social relations, and the universe in general.

I didn't say my DXM trips caused this, shit is so dirty feeling I hardly remember anything I thought of.
But I figured it out, just the fact that I have experienced my brain being extremely altered allows me to recognize myself being in different states of mind. It seems like I have some sort of surreal control or understanding of my emotions that make it easy to enjoy life. This seems dumb to alot of you, but I used to be depressed most of the time until I tried a few drugs.

I agree. It's not like anyone's gonna have some "spiritual quest" or something on dxm. all it does is make you retarted, have double vision, and walk like a robot.

not sure if that was serious or not, but basically I meant that the revelations come from within you... depending on what drug you took, they may have a certain character to them. But the idea that the drug itself is telling you anything is bunk. they're not really revelations, as the only thing that can possibly hide the truth from you is yourself.
sorry if I come off negatively / trying to stretch my epeen, these last two years have been so foggy for me I really have no idea wtf is going on.

I STRONGLY fucking disagree.
I don't need to prove it to anybody, but I know (and from what I've heard several other people on here too) that used with the right mindset (the right dosage as well) and the right time of your life, DXM can most certainly cause spiritual experiences. You just have to keep an open mind, and have a STRONG mind.

Re: Permanent Alterations in Perception
well psychoactive substances and spirituality are probably the most subjective experiences in life possible.
you can objectify it and quantify it and say do some DXM and have a spiritual experience,
as an indivdual interested in psychoactive substances from a knowledge/academic perspective (aswell as being a user)
i was learning about drugs way before i ever tried them (including alcohol), and i must say a spiritual experience cant be explained in words, there are no typical symptoms,
its just you, your mind, the world and the drug.
but back on topic alterations in perception is something ive thought about alot, often users especially frequent users get labbled as acting a certain way or being a certain way (i.e. stoner) even when they are sober, and i think its true sometimes i act somewhat high when im not (i.e. lack of cenccentration, memory loss), but also this calls into question does marijuana makes stoners act likes "stoners" or are "stoners" people with personality type/ profile that suits/attracts marijuana

True, all drugs have different effects on different people. I forgot to ad that to my original post.
To your question on marijuana/stoner/personality. Drugs easily alter your personality. Go to a psychiatrist and speak to them. Then drop LSD and go talk to a different psychiatrist the day after taking lsd. As for marijuana attracting certain people, I personally have thought about drug usage being genetic. Myself and a friend both had absent fathers for a majority of our lives. When we both came to having a relationship with our fathers, we both made the realization that our fathers smoked as well. Neither of us knew our fathers smoked before meeting them again.
