Network (in)Security Interesting hacks and cracks. Info on firewalls, TCP/IP, encryption, networks, and security. The ins and outs of the phone system, caller services, how things work, what's illegal and what's not, cellular phones, beepers, telephony legislation, the PUC, ISDN, taps, who's listening, and switches. Talking about phones, hacking systems, technical advice, and such is completely LEGAL in the United States -- it's covered by the First Amendment. What's illegal is conspiracy to commit a crime. So if you say something like "Meet me at 2am so we can crack a can" or "I changed my cell phone's number myself" you are criminally liable. Stating "You can crack a can by doing thus-and-so" or "If you wanted to change a cell phone's number, you could do it like so" is perfectly OK. Posting passwords, calling card numbers, or credit card numbers is forbidden on this network. Posting such info will get you booted off the net.

Default I remember this time I pwnd the cable guy

He came in to fix the fuzzy signal to the tv and constant internet disconnects. He changed some connectors and logged in to some shit online that showed signal in the general area, ip changing direct from the company and shit like that.

I forgot but I had a keylogger installed on that computer to test it out. I got his password and fucked around on his name. Sadly...I lost it like a week later.

just thought I'd share with you.

What do you mean when you say that you lost it? He noticed something was up, and he changed the password? Either way, nice job.

I mean I was a dumbass and uninstalled it without thinking about writing down his username and password.

I really don't think I could have done much in there, but it was interesting.

I recommend anybody try it out, it's a pretty easy to get inside of your local cable/internet providers site this way.

For obvious reasons, I don't believe it's standard protocol for field service techs to use customer computers to configure modem settings. They will either bring a company laptop, or call someone at the CO to remotely configure it. Basically, the OP sounds like he's full of the brown gelatinous substance, that comes from a male member of the bovine species.

Humans don't always follow standard protocol. Hence why certain things like this happens. It's perfectly possible and plausible. If OP wants to brag about how l33t he is for having a keylogger, then woot. He's still just some script kiddie pounding on vx-heavens and thinking they're leet.

If you want to be REALLY elite, you have to pull a righteous hack.

Yep, I'm really bragging about a having a keylogger on my computer. Something that lonely wifes have the skill to install to spy on their porn seeking husbands. Just thought I'd share the story, or give some ideas you fuckass.

Well, it seems like that. Sorry if I was too trigger-happy, you can never be too careful in these wild days of open registration.

Had you said you had written the keylogger (not hard to do and a great learning experience!) it would have been different. Too many people on this forum just skid around.
