Any tips on how to light a pipe?
Ill give some background.
I dont smoke as a habit, but actually when I feel like I want to taste the flavor, so Im kind of special when it comes to which cigarettes or tobacco I buy.
I just bought myself a pipe, some maple tobacco, and another pipe tobacco which just smells and tastes like a pure win.
I bet I could walk to your favorite deity and ask him what the meaning of life is and he would just give me a pack of that tobacco. It is simply divine.
I just cant get it to light properly, however. I have got the other one to light, but it is this one which I want to.
Most I have done is get it light for some seconds, but usually it will go off if I leave it for more than 10 seconds without a puff.
Any tips of how I can get it to last will be appreciated. It is a kick to the ass having such awesome taste and not being able to appreciate it.

Re: Lighting a pipe is a bitch.
Compact the tobacco into little balls whilst packing the pipe? Should work mate.

I think packing it is the key here. Don't just sprinkle it in, roll it up a bit. Get the dude at the tobacco store to help you.

Re: Lighting a pipe is a bitch.
Practice makes perfect. There is no one perfect way to pack a bowl. It varies depending on the pipe, the tobacco, and other things. So just keep smoking, you'll figure it out. But if something obviously isn't working, try something new.
How firmly the tobacco is packed is the major variable in getting a pipe to light properly, so thats the main thing you should be changing around. Also how much tobacco you pack is very important.
And last, do you know how to properly light a pipe? You don't just stick a match in it and suck. Have someone at a tobacco shop show you how to do it.

Re: Lighting a pipe is a bitch.
I smoke a pipe every once in a while. I have a big ass Churchwarden. Like the others have said, packing is key.
***Get a pipe tool if you haven't gotten one yet!!! It's the thing that packs that crap.
There are many styles to smoking. Here's what I like to do:
Pack a full bowl of tobacco
Light the bowl for a while, until much of the top has burned, not worrying about getting the full bowl lit
Pause and pack the top down. Now you have a layer of ash on top as insulation.
Now relight the bowl with a flame for a while. If a nice red cherry center forms, perfect! If you never get a good pull off of it, it is probably packed too tight! If you get a good pull but only lasting a little bit, either it is not packed tight enough or your tobacco has dried out!
***Make sure to have your tobacco in some sort of air-tight container, and put a piece of damp paper towel or sponge in there to keep the tobacco moist.

Re: Lighting a pipe is a bitch.
Well, Ill keep trying. I think it seems I am not packing it tight enough. Ill see to that next time I try.
The tobacco I bought is the one best recommended at my local tobacco shop (Lieb), and it has this very special aroma with lots of scents including berries and thousands more.
Woof, just a sniff of it makes me believe in heaven.

I have the tool and my tobacco is packed in air tight bag, and that is inside an air tight container and away from any light.

Re: Lighting a pipe is a bitch.
If its anything like weed take a few deep puffs, probably 2 or 3 right at the start to get it going.
