| Cellular Mods Your cell phone is really just a specialized computer with a wireless network connection. It has the software that your cellular provider has picked for you, but their software sucks. Why not replace what they give you with better software that has more features? |

Weird Cell phone problems
Unfortunately, this is nothing cool, but i wasn't sure where else to turn to.
I'm not sure if this belongs here so move accordingly.
Recently my girlfriend came back to Germany from the states with an American Razr phone. We changed the SIM card to a German SIM and now it works fine. There is a network present, but she is NOT able to text or call all of the time. She cannot send me any texts whatsoever, and 8 out of 10 times, if she calls my phone, she gets voicemail.
I'm wondering what the problem is. I'd like to have it to where it calls normally instead of being a fucking retard.
Is there anything else i can do?
Or is more information needed?
Thanks in advance for any ideas/tips

Re: Weird Cell phone problems
That's an interesting problem. What phone company?
It really sounds like it's a problem with the phone itself, and I'm not too familiar with the German network. Excuse my Canadian troubleshooting....
- while idling the phone, is there a 1x, A, D, R, or any other symbol?
- is it only your phone or others affected by the voicemail issue?
- check her network settings. Try changing home Auto to Home Only or vice versa to see if it helps.
I'll be back with more suggestions later...

Re: Weird Cell phone problems
Phone company is D1 Tmobile
She can send texts to phones of (I believe) other networks
But Tmobile seems like the loser in that equation
Thanks for the quick answer
I'll fiddle with the phone sometime

Re: Weird Cell phone problems
I idled the phone and there's no symbols that appear
I went into network settings, but the only thing i can change is the Band and the Speed
Both of which return to default as soon as the menu is exited
Any other ideas?

Re: Weird Cell phone problems
If it's pay as you go make sure you check the amount of minutes...
- take out the battery for about 30 seconds then try again
- test it calling/texting other phones to see if it's all phones or just yours she can't get to
- take out the sim card for about 30 seconds and put back in
- have T-Mobile reset features on the account
Does she ever get an error message?

Re: Weird Cell phone problems
The only error messages she gets are the ones that say that "MESSAGE CANNOT BE DELIVERED" and then like 01 or some number like that. Thats only during texting
Sometimes if she can't get a hold of me, instead of voicemail, the call will just drop.
We've done all of the above on your last post, but to no avail
We took it to the T Mobile cell phone shop and got it looked at, but they tried all kinds of different codes and procedures but to no avail.
The only thing i haven't done is master reset the phone, but i'm not sure if that would work or not
Plus i'm not sure if i need some security code to do such a thing
If all else fails, we'll just use this phone for a while. I know someone who works at a phone place who's got cheap ass phones for 19 euro's.
We might just have to get another one
IF you have any other suggestions, please throw them out
If not, thank you very much for looking into it for me

Re: Weird Cell phone problems
The Razr is not a Quad Band phone. That's why.
Europe uses 2 main bands, USA uses 2 main, and sometimes 3 main bands in Rural USA.
Razr is made for USA market, so it includes 3 main bands. It's to save costs on production.
There is no fix to this then to get another phone, the razr does not support your network in Germany.

Actually, there are CDMA and GMS versions of the RAZR. It seems to be the right one, as he's actually getting a signal.

Way off,
He said sim card, which means GSM. I never made a reference to CDMA, if it was a CDMA phone it wouldn't even allow a sim card to be placed inside to receive a signal.
I'm referring to the bands it can receive
Quad band e.g. GSM phones which will work anywhere there's a GSM signal = 850-900-1800-1900
Razrs, GSM ones use tri band = tri-band 850-1800-1900, though later Razrs are quadband.
See, you're missing the 900mhz band, which is very popular in international cell phone coverage.
The 900-1800 is the one needed for any coverage outside North America usually.
Now, if you're in a really really rural area, you could also be getting 400mhz signal..which then you'd need a specifc phone which aren't really sold in NA but you being in Germany shouldn't be a problem.
