Ignorance to illicit drugs
Now I know this probably doesnt belong here, but I thought I'de probably get the best replies here, so bear with me?
Anyway, so today I asked some generic friend of mine what she though about illegal drugs.
the answer was something like this
"i think drugs are gay and people who take them are even gayer basically to answer u straight"
So I decided to ask this person what they thought of alcohol.
"not as bad a drugs, exeptable"
If someone gave you this response, what would you say to inform them, or if they were attacking your drug use, what would you say to defend yourself?
I'm just wondering, because I know I used to think this way when I was younger aswell.

Re: Ignorance to illicit drugs
Well, first off I would explain to her that ANY substance that alters the bodys chemistry aside from food is a drug. I get so pissed when i see the inorance spewing from somebody with a beer and a cigarette in the hand talking about how "drugs are bad".
Then I would explain to her that drugs have been around as long as there has been life and that they keep human existance alive and prolonged. Drugs are some what like fire they can be used to keep a newborn baby warm, fed, and alive. or be used to destroy lives. So they generalization that an inaminate object is "gay" is past ignorant.
And as far as the law goes why would you allow someone else to tell you what is right and wrong. Thats the same type of blind ignorance that has allowed whole nations to be spoon fed ideas that lead up to the Holocaust.

I can see we're dealing with a really smart individual here. Did she learn that one at her DARE class? Maybe one of her personal ways to "JUST SAY NO"?
Give up and get her to GTFO.

Alcohol = drug.
I wish I could meet your friend so I could punch her in the face and then say I didn't so I don't look like a woman beater.

I would go with the classics myself. Backhand to the face area.
But yeah, make it clear that you do drugs and be really nice to her. Always be able to carry a non drug related conversation with her and, wait, "generic friend" ?... You mean like someone that you almost never hang out with around school or work? Fuck, why do you care what she thinks about you?
If you want to spread the word and disrupt this intolerance, you need to show people that drugs don't effect your life. They are extra, and are your bitch. Most people are not comfortable with extreme belief/change, so if you wear the occasional drug t-shirt or whatever, it's fine. However, printing out mass copies of violantly-worded anti-government/drug propaganda flyers will only attract punks and similarly thinking individuals. If people like you and think you are tight, they will almost always not care that you smoke around them. They like your personality, and if they hate drugs, and your personality revolves around drugs, they are not going to like you.

This. I'm also assuming this bargain-bin friend of yours is under 18? And probably a girl? Give her a nice, fat joint, and see how fasts she changes her mind.

Re: Ignorance to illicit drugs
Well thats just the thing, I dont even take drugs, I just wanted to see what she thought.
I spent 2 hours arguing with her, shutting down basically everything she said, and yet she was still game to call me naive.
naive coming from someone who thought that you could OD on marijuana, and that we invaded Iraq because the terrorists posed a risk
By generic friend I sorta mean generic thinking. Aka she'll like whatever MTV tells her to, and will never question anything.
The only reason I try to argue these things with her is because I was friends with her as a kid, and I'm always trying to make people more open minded.

I would not do anything, and keep my mouth shut.
Particularly, how you say: "generic friend", does not ring true for the type of people i would like to persuade, discuss, or revel my use of drugs.
It all depends on the closeness of your relationship, and how much you trust her.

You don't outright argue with people to prove your point if you wish to "open" (change) their beliefs.
And starting such a conversation with a girlfriend of similar mentality, back in high school, was a big mistake.....
Sure, if you meet someone open minded, or perhaps someone you already have established mutual understanding and compassion... you can suggest to teach or answer any of her questions regarding drugs....
I personally, believe that, you yourself, are close minded as well.
Answer me: why do you want a person, "ignorant" and in a mental place like she is now, to change her view on drugs in particular.
Ask yourself, and nobody else, what is the selfish motive that drives you to persuade her?
Some types of people, who have never in life, stirred to questioned what they are being fed..... are better off not knowing.... for awaking such a dormant pathway in an already conditioned mentality is neither an easy, nor a positive experience.

Re: Ignorance to illicit drugs
THIS generation is not going to change, the government has the most influence over people(they have made sure of that) and you wont be able to challenge them.
Its down to the later generations. A LOT more people these days are either smoking weed or have tried it and found no problems, this leads them to influence their kids when we are all older.
power in numbers is what i have always said, we cant open other peoples minds, they have to open their own.
Once weed has a majority of people willing to vote, we have legalization.

I'm not trying to change her beliefs, I'm fine with her thinking that way so long as she thinks that way because of a researched opinion, not just what she's been told all her life. I'm aware that the definition of open minded is not what "my opinion is because its right".
I dont care if people hate anything, as long as they've come to that conclusion logically, by themselves.

Re: Ignorance to illicit drugs
i used to rant and rave and try as hard as i could to educate people who said things like that. now i just grin, shake my head, and change the subject. its not worth your time. you dont want people that dumb doing drugs anyway. we have enough stupid people on drugs already, and they are why drugs are still illegal.

Re: Ignorance to illicit drugs
people like this make me sick. they cannot think for themselves and the only reason they think drugs are bad is because they are illegal. i went on yahoo answeres and asked some good music to listen to while high and i got a bunch of replies saying "stop using drugs you fuck head". sorry for the rant.
If someone said this to me i would reply by asking why drugs are bad then laugh in their face when they cant come up with a credible reason why alcohol is better then drugs.

Some people are just like that and most of them are too stubborn to change their mind.
IMO - Alcohol is more dangerous than Mary Jane, and I'm sure most people would definitely agree with me.

Re: Ignorance to illicit drugs
A lot of my friends have that sort of attitude towards drugs. For instance, whenever I'm talking to my friends about our weekends, they'll be like "What did you do on the weekend?" and I'll tell them I did ecstasy, acid, or whatever it is that I did on the weekend in question, and they'll say shit like "Man, you shouldn't do *drug*, drugs are bad. You should just drink alcohol man, don't do drugs though."
I used to be a little like that, to a degree. I never said drugs were bad, but I always have my reservations about them. That was until some of my more enlightened friends corrected all the bullshit I believed to be true, and subsequently I tried them for myself and have loved and used drugs ever since. I guarantee that if people got information about drugs from sources such as Erowid, or intellectual/seasoned drug users, rather than from teachers, cops or from the media, then they'd have a much better perception of drugs. They still might not use them, but at least we wouldn't have as many people walking around talking about shit they have no idea about.
Hell, I wouldn't even mind if people said drugs were bad, so long as they didn't say that alcohol/smoking are completely fine. I mean, I have nothing against smoking or alcohol use, but it's ridiculous to say that drugs are bad just because they're illegal, and alcohol/smoking are fine because the government allow people to use them. I actually asked one of my anti-drug friends why he thinks drugs are bad, and he replied "because they're illegal."

People just believe the shit they hear on the T.V or from biased anti-drug activists. There's really no point in arguing. Just take solace in the fact that you're smart enough to know what's bullshit, and what isn't, and take pity on the people that weren't blessed with more than two brain cells. Your 'generic friend' sounds a lot like some people I know. They don't actually know anything, but call people who disagree with them 'ignorant and naive', nevermind the fact that their entire argument consists of information they're being spoonfed.

A friend of mine did that to his girlfriend (who was really against drugs); she enjoyed it immensely, and is no longer against drugs (albeit, she still doesn't do them).
