Mystery Shopper...
So today i got a $4,150 check in the mail. It was from "Shop'n Check", a customer service evaluation company. Naturally, I thought it was some sort of scam, but I looked them up online and they seem to be legit.
I have a strict list of tasks on how to spend the money:
MY SALARY: 500
Wal-Mart: 50
Money Gram: 2,250
(Service fee: 120)
Sears: 50
Western Union: 1,100
(Service fee: 80)
Then, I see they want me to send most of the funds to their "designated" training agents. Now I think I'm laundering money for them, but again they seem really legit online.
So, this is a weekly thing, that will probably take up like 4 hours of my time. Thats 500 dollars about every other week for doing nearly nothing. Too good to be true? Anyone ever heard of scams like this?

It's a classic 419 scam. They send you a check, ask you to send some funds elsewhere while you keep a percentage.
You send the monies in good faith, and oh noes! The check bounces and you're down a few grand.
Deposit the check into your account, and wait for it to clear before you send any money whatsoever. The chances of this being legit are extremely small.
It's easy to create a professional looking website.

Oh dip, this is so true.
Hah I feel like an idiot. The website is legit, but the letter I got was forged. The check had the address misspelled, and the letter had a phone number from qubec.
Yeah the checks in peices in my garbage now
thanks

You can actually sign up to become a mystery shopper. Though they want an SIN/SSN so I'm quite hesitant to do so.

Re: Mystery Shopper...
My old boss did mystery shopping on the side. She made some pretty good money at it, but she said it was a pain in the ass. You have to drive all over town. You have to go somewhere and get or ask for or do exactly what they ask. Then you have to fill out a report which is sometimes 5 or 6 pages long. Then you have to sit around and wait on the check. It doesn't seem like it's hard, just annoying.
I stay in touch with her and she still does it, but not as much. I've been meaning to ask her how she gets the jobs. If I find out, I'll share with the class.

Re: Mystery Shopper...
I'd have cashed the cheque and wait for it to clear, then see what happens.
