Disposable Suppressor.
Now all of you regulars know me enough to know that despite the late inflow of posseur into the forum, I am not one to troll.
Also, that I have been responsibly approaching the art of suppressing weapons for quite some time now.
That being said, there came to me this idea the other day, which I wanted to share before trying out.
Using the tried and tested method of Scotch Brite wipes for the filtering effect, would it be feasible to construct a suppressing unit entirely out of cardboard from paper towel rolls, with rubber washers separating the baffling chambers. The unit is intended for either an S&W k19 targeting revolver in .22LR, or my Winchester 52 .22LR rifle.
Thanks,
LavaRed

Re: Disposable Suppressor.
I wouldn't think it would be effective due to cardboard's lack of flexibility relative something such as PETE. That's just me. Maybe you could double-layer the cardboard with epoxy?

That revolver doesn't do the gas seal thing, does it? If not, then what would even be the point of trying to suppress it?

Re: Disposable Suppressor.
Well, when you consider the success of those galvanized screen and duct tape suppressors, or the soda bottle ones, it doesn't seem like that much of a stretch. I doubt it would withstand the pressure of any centerfire cartridges, but .22LR, especially subsonic loads, might work. You'd probably only get a few shots (maybe even just one).
You should go with a paper towel tube instead. They're longer so you won't have to worry about taping the little tubes together.
You know you can't effectively suppress most revolvers, right?

Because theres a fat gap between the cylinder and the barrel. The gas will just escape from there and it'll be rully rully loud.

We're talking about high velocity gases here, not the front door of a Mississippi burger king.

Re: Disposable Suppressor.
Just the thing, I was talking about the long paper towel tube.
I was thinking along the lines of what R_L first said, the cardboard failing with pressure. I like the epoxy idea.
And before anyone suggests it, this is not intended for any criminal activity. I'm just looking for a way to cheaply make a plinking suppressor, so I can plink in my backyard without much hassle.
That being said, from what you guys have mentioned I'm assuming I run the risk of having the unit blow up in my face right?
Mainly I'll be using it in the rifle tho. The revolver is would only be IF somehow I manage to make it fit both rifle and revolver, which I doubt.
Deeperndeeper, the gap between the cylinder and barrel in a revolver is not even 1 cm wide. More like .1 cm wide, sufficient to allow a significant escape of gas.
O/T, I expect the guys to finish my machine tooled suppressor no later than next Friday, sho I should soon be making a new thread for it and tests. Hope to God everything works dandy, for what it will cost. Estimated cost is around $65.
