Default Re-using needles

This might be obvious to some of you, but is it ok to reuse a needle if I was the only one to use it?

Each time you reuse a needle it gets a little more dull. And the duller the needle, the more damage you'll do to yourself with it.

It's best to use a new one each use. But in real terms you can get 2 or 3 good uses out of one.

I've watched some people use a matchbook to sharpen a needle. But I wouldn't suggest it at all.

Rinse it out before you reuse it at least, preferably with alcohol then with water.

its suggested to use them only once, so in that case you can get them from vets, diabetics, doctors offices etc they are pretty easy to get hands on (for me at least)

In alot of places you can just walk into a pharmacy and ask for a ten pack of 28gauge insulin syringes and they'll sell them to you.

I hate that extra little sting you get from punching in with an old rig.

Pictures of Needle Reuse:

http://www.exchangesupplies.org/drug_information/leaflets_and_booklets/sharp_needle_blunt_needle/blunt_needle/resources/bluntneedlecard.jpeg

Couldn't find the original poster, but the left needle has never been used. The one on the right is just after two uses.

(Notice the nasty hook and shearing?)

When are they gonna come out with that thing Dr. McCoy used in StarTrek to "inject" people with.
No STD's, no bruises, no mess. Just apply to skin, push a button, and get an infusion of dope into your system.

Peace.

i'd be more worried about getting an infection from the nasties growing on specs of dried blood in the hypo.

act like you know what your doing and you can buy insulin needles from a pharmacy. if they refuse just go to another one.

Actually, those are older than Star Trek. Jet injectors are frequently used to inoculate large groups in third world countries or militaries. They're for IM administration, though. Only go a millimeter or so deep.

Because Jeff Hunter's a slow old lady who never gets around to that sort of thing.

Shit, I fucking pulled the needle out 5 times before I even did the deed today.

Never again.

Well, why the hell did it take 6 tries anyway?
Not to mention the fact that your veins must love your 6-shot shot, even if you had used a new needle each time.

Indeed, so I wanted to make sure I hit the right spot. However, I have a limited supply of 25g needles, so I had to use it.

Yes and they are not fun. I helped drain a few of them [on other people] when I was still hanging with tweekers and junkies.

Not only that, but if you're shooting Mexican tar, with IM injections you also risk getting that flesh eating virus. Because it thrives in an anaerobic environment [lacking in oxygen].

That's even less pleasant than abscesses - to say the least. A person I knew got that. He was on of 11 people who got it that Summer. He was the only one to live. But he lost almost all the flesh on the back of his right leg and all the flesh on his ass. He got real lucky that's all that happened.

And you'd think after that he wouldn't shoot anymore, wouldn't you?

Well for a month or so he did only snort or smoke it. But after that he went back to the needle.

It only reinforces what I've always said: People who use needles for any drug [illicit drugs I mean] are total fucking morons!

This is where I got mine, Terumo syringes.

But yeah, I was injecting sterile substance, so abscesses would really only be my fault.

If any of you are regularly reusing needles, you're fucking dumb. They might be illegal in your state, but i'm sure you could get them if you tried.... think getting a fake diabetics card or just learning to bullshit (wear a shirt or something to the chemists... Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)). Failing that, you're on the fucking INTERNET, buy needles online... if you have to shoot up, use some common sense about it.

Those pictures are pretty nasty, I didn't realise needles got blunt like that, but still... it's common knowledge needles aren't meant to be reused. Why needlessly harm your body? I bet in some of your states they MUST have needle exchange programs and stuff for heroin addicts; I know they do over here, and even where they don't, you can get clean needles.

Denying addicts clean and safe shooting equipment is seriously dumb, imo. EEK!
