Default Smart Drugs???

So, I'm about to enter my first year in a fairly high-competition school, at least it seems that way to me (I take almost anything as a challenge), and I wanted to get my mind in top shape for the beginning of school, and I don't care about cheating to help make myself even smarter.

I just wanted to know, if anyone has any firsthand experience, what works best? Where to get these things? Preferably, cheap. And, what works best along with the drugs to get optimum effects?

And by smart drugs, I don't mean speed, adderall, or meth, or other stimulants.

I already take those for my ADHD... so I can actually get my answers down on paper before something more interesting makes me forget, and "hey, was that the question? Oh, and Billy is writing a note to Suzie, and it says he liiiiikes her!"

Look up piracetam. Also, if you want real answers you might wanna search through bluelight, you will learn a lot more. I have learned most of what I know about smart drugs from there.

I've learned alot through BLTC..you just gotta catch a larger number of vets on..but it is sad what BLTC has become....Spurious Generalities.... Mad

Oh yeah, if you do try something like Ginko you should begin taking it ASAP..it takes some time to work it's way into your noggin and make a difference (which'll probably be subtle.

Well, lets see...The only experience I have with nootropics is with ginkgo. I've gotten some immediate results from ginkgo, but they're not always consistent. I never hurts through...

Other than that... Lets talk cholinergics. Anyone who's ever taken Benedryl "recreationally" knows that when your acetylcholine levels are down you can't do shit. So, it follows that boosting acetylcholine levels would improve/increase brain function. As for how to do that, the most direct way is with an Acetylcholinesterase inhibitor (AChEI, for short), and the most available AChEI is a chemical found naturally in tomato leaves called huperzine A. You can also buy it in pill form at most nutritional outlets, though you'll get the best deals on ebay.

On another note, you have the racetams (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racetam the most known being piracetam). From what little I have read, they appear promising. I remember reading somewhere that a real study was done (double-blind, placebo, and all that good stuff) and it showed an immediate increase in cognitive ability in various areas that was higher than in placebo groups. Also, they have the benefit of being completely nontoxic (a problem easily encountered when trying to dose yourself on tomato leaves).

And finally, we have ADD meds. The reason everybody suggests these is because they proliferate adrenalin and dopamine, which do a damn good job of increasing brain function (SWIM takes them before all major research projects). The problem is, you're already on 'em, and they're not doing all they should be. Now, I don't know your dosage or current medications, but I imagine after years of any ADD meds, you've developed a tolerance. Now, I've heard places that stimulant tolerance can be reduced/eliminated by using NMDA antagonists in relatively small dosages in combination with the stims. A good example of this would be a robogel or two (DXM as a nootropic, who woulda thunk it?) with the first dose, as well as a booster at noon, or whatever. Even simpler than this would be just taking a little extra magnesium in your diet as it is the body's natural NMDA antagonist.

If you do try any of the above, be sure to post results. I hope it is helpful.

Nice, do you know if nootropics generally cause Tachycardia or is it just the ones I've tried? After years of drug use i've gone and done some damage to my heart and now I have problems with any drug that even moderately increase the heart rate...just wonderin'.

I'm curious, which nootropics have you tried? I happen to have experience with tachycardia myself (along with some other cardiac stuff), and I know how it can suck. Ginkgo has never cause me problems, but unfortuantely my experience with other nootropics is severely lacking.

Hell yeah it sucks man..I found out one night after two bottles of tussin + alot of pot...I had never had the problem and thought I was having a heart attack. I'm used to it now and usually avoid things that raise the HR. Im still trying different things to get it to go away..from slow breathing to plunging my face in ice cold water to dipping my forearm in cold water as well.

As far as ones i've tried:
Ginko
Adderall (Nootropic or no?)
Melatonin
GHB
Tryptophan
Piracetam

I actually had problems with Tryptophan (which was weird since it's a sleep aid) as well as Adderall, and Piracetam..never had great results with Ginko.

Whatever works
As far as ones i've tried:
Ginko

Adderall (Nootropic or no?)
Definately nootropic. With heart issues, stick to dosages in the 1-5mg range. Yea, I know that's kid stuff, but thats the price we pay.
Melatonin
Use it, never got problems.
GHB
do you mean GHB or GABA? I didn't think GHB was a nootropic. IIRC isn't GHB pharmacologically identical (or at least really similar) to alcohol?
Tryptophan
Melatonin is a sleep aid. Tryptophan doubles as a sleep aid, but first and formost increases serotonin. Serotonin can cause increased heart rate.
Piracetam
Haven't tried it , but mean to. What was your dosage? How much did your vitals jump?

I meant GABA my bad.

Now my vitals jumping from Tryptophan makes sense..I was wondering how the hell that shit worked.

I take Melatonin on a daily basis, it helps to relax myself and (slightly) slow my heartrate at times.

As far as Pirac. is concerned it was the 800mg tabs..I took em for about 3 days before I started having some weird jumps. I wasn't on anything else at the time so it had to be caused by that. I was having rapid HB's around midday whenever I took it..like I was getting stressed ALOT easier than usual and it was doing a number on my health.

With Adderall I was prescribed it some time ago for my ADHD. This was before my heart problems. Since then i've dosed with it two or three times..two times they (of course) fucked with my ticker..and one other timeI only took like 4mg and had some small problems but nothing to write home about.

Do you know of anything that helps prevent Tachy? I know beta blockers are supposed to block adrenaline to the Sinu-gland..but I can't seem to get a doc to give me anything other than fucking Ativan..which is just a temporary fix and is gonna end up causing me more trouble if I get addicted to the Benzos.

As far as Im concerned its not insane at all. Meth was a godsend for me in school. When you start lagging behind on essays and projects, smoke a bowl or two, and you can pull an all nighter without becoming drowsy. Not to mention your ability to get shit done has been increased tenfold.

Yea. Though I always have been intrigued by the idea of a recreational drug being nootropic at lower dosages...

I'm always happy to increase awareness

This is something I worry about with racetams. No matter where you look there seems to be very little data about the pharmacology behind racetams. There are plenty of reports and brain scans showing effects, but very little actual data. The best I've seen so far in that they have some correlation with acetylcholine function, but the specifics are always left out. So, I'm probably going to get some pirac to see what happens. Some reports say pirac has stim properties, others do not. Guess I'll just have to see for myself.

Now, if I knew how to stop Tachy, I'd be a happy man. But unfortunately, I do not. The best I could give you is a theory. Back in the phenylalanine thread, there was talk about using St. John's Wart (STJ), and specifically the Hypericum Anthroquinones present within it to modify a stimulant buzz. He (JoePedo, the master of neuropharmacology in that thread) posted resources saying that STJ reduced the breakdown of dopamine in the synapses (doing two things).

One was prolonging the time you had to enjoy your dopamine. The other was slowing (significantly) the production of adrenaline. The link was that when dopamine is broken down in the synapses it either is dissasembled by Monoamine Oxidase (MAO) or eaten by Dopamine Beta Hydroxylase (DBH) and converted into adrenaline. So, what JP was saying, was that by taking STJ (though the dosage was never clear) one could decrease adrenaline levels in their system. As for how well this works and whatnot, I'll need to do some testing, but I figured in the meantime, I'd at least pass the idea on to you.

PCP FTW!

Provigil though, seriously. I mentioned it in the other thread about nootropics. A quick google search should tell you all you need to know. That, and there's quite a few first-hand articles written by normal people who tried the drug for the sole purpose of reporting on it. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on some myself.

Oh and for BTO, I'm assuming you'd be wondering anyway, I do recall reading a case study about it, in which 1, possibly 2, patients experienced bad cardio-effects. One might've even went into full arrest, cant quite recall.

I have some of this and I can't get it to work for me. I get better effects from JP's phenylalanine cocktail (and that's without a cholinergic). My guess is there's probably something to getting it to work (if I had to guess, it'd be that too much/all of it gets -->dopamine on the wrong side of the BBB, and you'd need a peripheral dopa decarboxylase inhibitor, like they use in Parkinson's treatment).

Some very good info in this thread, great job guys, I only have a couple things to add to this, first, care must be taken when altering AcO levels, because when levels get TOO high it can cause all kinds of unwanted effects, including what you were trying to fix, mental cloudiness, brain farts, scatter brain etc.

And also, I've read about several 2Cx compounds being used in very low doses daily and showing positive results in some individuals.

Well, it seems I haven't been around this thread for awhile, but I'm curious, what could I make with pure L-DOPA? Given, if it was alpha-methylDOPA it would just be a Strecker away from being 34dihydroxyAmp, but as is, what to do? Also, I get the Unique Nutrition brand of DOPA. According to the package, its only contents are LDOPA, maltodextrin, and the gel cap it comes in. If this is true, an extraction wouldn't be hard to accomplish, but what could I do with pure LDOPA?

Also, Since the thread started, I've started on Huperzine A, which I think works pretty good. I pop some of that and some caffeine and I can beast at videogames. Seriously, headshots like a mutherfucker. Oh, SN, what do you mean by AcO? And 2Cx stuff as nootropics? I like it. I'll do some researching.

Curcumin? Available at health food stores. Perhaps better absorbed when taken with piperine if you have any handy.

"There is also circumstantial evidence that curcumin improves mental functions; a survey of 1010 Asian people who ate yellow curry and were between the ages of 60 and 93 showed that those who ate the sauce "once every six months" or more had higher MMSE results than those who did not.[15] From a scientific standpoint, though, this does not show whether the curry caused it, or people who had healthy habits also tended to eat the curry, or some completely different relationship.

Numerous studies have demonstrated that curcumin, amongst only a few other things such as high impact exercise, learning, bright light, and antidepressant usage, has a positive affect on neurogenesis in the hippocampus and concentrations of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), reductions in both of which are associated with stress, depression, and anxiety."

I am already fairly intelligent and it never hurts to have a bit more of an edge. Fuck, actually, I often feel cloudy headed, and struggle finding the proper way to express myself. And often fail at it. It's quite frustrating too, to be able to know and understand something, and yet fail at explaining it or teaching someone else.
