Looking through alot of erowid, etc. I sort of notice something odd about heroin.

It's the most demonized drug in the world, yet looking at the side effects and things, it doesn't seem to have much physical damage attached to it's regular use. I mean, the main problems put forward about it are HIV spread from needles, smoke on the lungs, and it's addiction leading to crime.

But if a guy was in a rich job, used a sterile needle and only to himself, and never smoked it. This appears to cut everything out.

I may be grossly misinformed but it seems to lack the physical and mental problems caused by habitual cocaine, amphetamine and benzo use.

It's true. In theory if someone had consistent access to pure heroin, sterile needles, and knew a how to inject properly the majority of the harmful effects associated with heroin use would no longer be issues. In reality though, when you're fiending bad you probably won't care if the needle is used or if the dope is cut with ground glass or other fucked up shit. Sure, you can take steps to come as close as possible to the ideal scenario described above, but it'd be difficult to maintain.

Other than psychological addiction that usually is stronger than that of amphetamines, cocaine, alcohol etc, and a feeling that life isnt right without the drug there arent too many mental "side effects".

In my experience there are more physical side-effects with potential long-term consequences and definite short term ones. More minor ones would be nausea/vomiting and appetite suppression. A combination of appetite suppression and heroin's powerful sedating and bliss-inducing effects lead to many users having body wasting problems. So you'd have to add a rich individual who also goes to the gym and has a good appetite.

In a scenario where everything is 'under control' as you've put forward, incontinence and impotency are the really the only things to worry about.

i don't know dude, any drug that turns off all hunger for everything but itself is pretty dangerous...

Is snorting heroin THAT much less effective. I know tons of people who bump it out but almost no one who shoots. Can some one shed light on this? Is it still good when snorting?

Strictly speaking, the snorted bioavailability of pure heroin is believed to be somewhere between 45-60 percent, but with various cuts and whatnot expect it to be at the lower end of things, if even at 45%.
