grinded up weed
Is weed more potent if it is grinded up? I've always just nicked a little off the bud and smoked it in a pipe.

Re: grinded up weed
how would something become more potent merely by cutting it up,
but it is easier to roll and if you smoke out of a bong or bowl there is more surface area for the flame to get to

No
No, no, no, no, and no.
It does not magically get stronger, but It burns a lot better and hits smoother. If you smoke joints, it rolls a lot easier too.

Ground up, not "grinded up".
I think you need to put down the bowl and pick up an english book.

Re: grinded up weed
This is a valid question, will it burn more evenly/efficiently even if I'm just using a bowl?
I don't mind scissoring up my weed if it's going to be a better smoke, but I can see where the OP may think it would be better due to better surface area.

Re: grinded up weed
It will effectively be more potent for an equal volume of weed. You are increasing the surface area to weight ratio. Since potency generally is a measure of THC content versus weight, you technically are increasing the potency.

Re: grinded up weed
Depends on how you handle it. After grinding, there's a yellow dust stuck to the inside of the grinder and whatever else it was on cause of static and the stickyness of it, and the yellow dust is the trichomes, the part that gets you high. Those are the most potent ones. If you don't make sure you collect them all and put them into the joint or pipe, you're actually making it less potent. If you just pinch some off and put it in a pipe, you should poke it with something sharp after taking a hit and stir it a bit cause there's trichome and stuff still inside the bud a lot of the time. Unless of course it just turned to white ash or grey ash. But if there's hard chunks, then poke it.

Huh, interesting. What works well for a homemade grinder? I was just going to chop mine up with a knife. I'm a relatively new smoker (if that, read some of my posts for my experiences).

Nail scissors. Coffee grinders can work, but that's not worth the effort for small batches and you'll play hell cleaning all the yummy bits out.

I'm betting your hands would work better. Just go buy a grinder.

Is a grinder worth it to the occasional bowl-smoker? Since I'm moving to college, I'm trying to keep the paraphernalia down.
So far I've got a lighter, pipe, weed, spare matches and a camera-type case to hold it all. Is a grinder really worth it for the bowl though?
Sure some blunts from time to time would be nice, but to justify the expense and bulk of a grinder is currently beyond me.
Seeing as Florida has terrible paraphernalia laws, etc. trying to always keep cautious ya know?

I suppose. Headshop is about ten minutes away, I was just looking for a quick fix.

Uh, no. It does however allow for better, deeper hits..so it may appear more potent to someone who doesn't know their drugs.

Is it still open? You should go get one real quick if so.

This depends on how much you like/hate breaking up weed. It's certainly quick and handy.

Re: grinded up weed
A grinder is worth it if you want to conceal the smell. I have a grinder that's stainless steel with a nice screen which I can collect trichomes with and separate them from the green plant matter. I think it's called a pollenator or something.
If you use a grinder like this the trichomes don't really have any smoke or smell when you smoke them, so it's a good way to get high stealthily. But be sure to keep a layer of white ash or something on the bottom so the trichomes don't just get sucked through the screen.. You can press them to make hash too, either with your fingers or with something else, and then they can't get sucked through the screen.
I don't know about a homemade grinder, but I wouldn't use my grinder if I'm just smoking out of my pipe. Fingers work good. You should buy a 10$ microscope, from a radioshack or some place like that. So you can see the trichomes.

Re: grinded up weed
Yes, grinders are worth it even to the occasional smoker. They're small, easy to conceal, and often overlooked by people looking through your room.
The real reason you need one is that it increases the surface area of the weed if you're using a bong. It makes individual hits more potent, and shortens smoking time.
They're also essential to rolling good joints, otherwise your shit will be all lumpy.

Naw, I can roll perfect joints without a grinder, with my eyes closed. Grinders just make it much faster.

Re: grinded up weed
well if you do it right, yes it really does, ground it up properly right before use and it burns more of the weed, smoking big nugs u got juicy weed in the center surrounded by ash, so u just knock that ash off and keep on, but ground up it can burn every part of the weed. dont grind it up and wait, as the longer you wait, the more the THC breaks down after a certain point, the less potent your weed.

Re: grinded up weed
The only way it did it for me was if you throw in everything(Seed, stem) into a blender for about 3 minutes on "liquify". It seemed like it took less to get me high, but it may have been because I had so much of it since it was so fine.
Its also easier to smoke. The air passes through it easier than if it was some big ass chunk.

I bought a space case grinder today and have got to say it's much easier to smoke and seems a lot less wasteful.

Re: grinded up weed
noooo....
if you grind your weed you will lose crystals and the bowl will be spent after fewer hits. pick a couple of peices of bud off and the outer layer will burn 1st. when all black, press, prod the burnd bud to break it open and smoke more. i waste less weed this way.

a grinder with a keif catcher is one of the things ive started to love since buying it... the last couple nights i had hardly any bud to speak of, just a bit of shake and a couple grams of stems... ground up the stems and collected a sufficient amount of keif to get me high...

Re: grinded up weed
Fuck that, since I didn't want to spend money for a kief collecter I just figured I'd give the grinder an alcohol wash after plenty has been ground through it.
Then evaporate and profit????
