| Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought. |

Are the Republicans backing McCain properly?
Seems to me, McCain is not getting the full support of the GOP. His campaign is just awful, when it could be better. The GOP needs to send McCain a Karl Rove clone before it is too late.
But why don't they?
Anyone think that our economy and problems abroad are going to get much worse before it gets better? If it takes 4 years of this country getting worse before Bush's messy diaper is cleaned up, having a Dem in there for to blame it on, might be a good way to restore some of the damage Bush's administration has done to the GOP.
I don't know, just a thought. I am trying to figure out why McCain looks worse and worse the closer we get to election. He should have RAN from the tainted repub brand as fast as he could. Instead he embraced the policies of a man-child who isn't smart enough to effectively manage a McDonalds.
Can anyone else think of some reasons why McCain's campaign sucks ass? Even the most stalwart GOP fucktard has to admit his campain could be better.

Re: Are the Republicans backing McCain properly?
Grandpa Simpson is one of a dying breed. Oh and I mean dying literally, check [some] of the medical records he released.
*old man wheezing* "My friends..." *more wheezing* "My friends, I am 137 years old. I am the best person to lead this country into the 20th century. The Austro-Hungarian Empire must submit to having our artillery pieces placed in it's borders, to counter the threat of the Russian Tzar. Persia must stop it's warmongering and illegal musket program and recognise the Ottoman State as a country...."
*dies from face tumour*

Yes, I could do a better job at running McCain and the GOP's campaigns, and I haven't even been a community organizer!

Re: Are the Republicans backing McCain properly?
It's because in the 80's the GOP went with the christian right as opposed to Barry Goldwater. What happened was that the party was slowly dominated by the religious right after the Reagan-Bush years.
McCain is the man who took over for Goldwater after he retired in 1987 and is actually closer to Goldwater than the religious right. Now the party is making a shift and is caught in transition because a libertarian republican from Goldwater's wing of the party is running for president and the religicos don't like him (just like they hated Goldwater).
It's only natural that they don't know what to do with him.
I'd have to say his campaign isn't perfect, he doesn't get enough time in the news, and mainly the media tends to be a more left wing institution. I don't know what McCain can do to rectify this, I suggest he choose Joe Leiberman to run with and try to steal the Reagan democrats as opposed to just the far right. But that's just what I want.

You had some good points, but I don't know about this. I like Joe Lieberman, but except for the War on Terrorism, he would be better suited to be Obama's running mate. He would make the libertarian Republicans mad and the religious right mad. If we are talking about what McCain can do to win, picking Lieberman is not it.

If McCain wants to get into the SENSATIONALIST (not liberal) media.....he is going to have to do something more exciting than have a lame ass BBQ party, a tired old town hall meeting, and an evening in a depressing grocery store talking about food prices.
If McCain could draw crowds of thousands everywhere he goes, he would be able to draw the media.
It is a matter of who makes a better story, and will get better ratings for the networks.
His policies are not exciting b/c they are the same policies we have now. He is not exciting, b/c he is just not an excited person. I would not be excited either if I had one foot firmly in the grave.

I think picking Huckabee would be a great choice for McCain. Huckabee was a lively and exciting person. He ran a good campaign, and can get some of the Jesus humpers easily.

Not in a million years.
It'll be Romney, without much doubt. McCain has already emblazoned himself as a "maverick" and a "moderate", and having offended the religious right enough up until now, he really has no choice but to play the game without them. Did you see the Pennsylvania Republican primary? Huckabee was at 35%! McCain's fucked this election year; hopefully he'll be able to retain the religious right as the GOP base though; Obama's looking ever more religious (in relative terms) as time goes by.

As much as I think that Huckabee would do a good job of getting the religious vote for McCain, I hope he isn't the running mate because I fucking hated him. Everything he said revolved around Christianity and I had a serious problem with that. I don't have a problem with religion itself, I just don't like the religious right's desire to make Christianity the law of the land when we are supposed to have as much seperation of church and state as possible.
Romney on the other hand is a great choice for McCain. While his religious beliefs still bother me some (their influence on his policy, not the fact that he is Mormon), I think that he has attributes that will make him a great running mate. During the primary debates whenever he talked about the economy he ran circles around all of the other candidates and a good economic policy could really get the votes this time around. Romney's connections to many big businesses will give him a foot in the door for lots of fund raising. He could really help out McCain in the states with large Mormon population. As much as I don't approve of people voting for him because he's Mormon or not, votes are votes. Romney also has the right outlook on the state of the country to make people feel better about our current condition, but he isn't trying to make us think that everything is fine like many republicans are.
Just my two cents.
