That is pretty darn messed up to do that to someone. The kid that did it is going to lose many years of his life to prison. If the victim dies this dude is going to be in deep shit.

Definitely messed up, but again it is being hyped up by police and media. "Our detectives are saying this could have easily decapitated this young man." BS on that, you can tell from the picture that the axe is one of those fantasy junk stainless steel at best pieces. It even has that weird texture on it (similar to ones I have seen in other crappy 10$ axes)
There is no doubt you could kill someone with it by stabbing with the points, but unless you fit it into a sabot and launch it from a rail gun, it won't decapitate anyone.
And Conan the Barbarian swinging it at enemy soldiers? Enough said there.
