Damn Small Linux
Which flash drives will it work on? Which would be best? Will it work on a Dell Inspiron 531S? I've been wanting this for a long time cause I assume it'll be much faster than windows. It'd be nice if they sold flash drives with DSL preinstalled.... My old computer wouldn't allow me to install it, so I forgot about it for a while. What would be the easiest way to install it?

So you've not used Gnu/Linux before? I'd suggest trying Ubuntu first. Once you get comfortable with it and see what problems your hardware might have with Ubuntu, note solutions for DSL and then try it out. I've never tried Damn Small Linux myself but I'd definitely suggest trying Ubuntu first as it takes a lot of the sting of moving to Linux away. Plus, #Ubuntu on irc.freenode.net and the Ubuntu forums are invaluable resources which you can use in case you have a problem in Ubuntu.
Oh, and I'm pretty sure Fedora comes with a USB-drive install creator. Ubuntu will have this on its next release, 8.10.

I dunno about Ubuntu. I think I used it in a library once. But one of the reasons I want DSL is cause it's so small.

Re: Damn Small Linux
Puppy linux is about 78mb and has better hardware recognition than DSL, might one have a look at that.
Slitaz is 30mb, never used it before, so can't comment.

I've been seriously considering installing puppy for some time now. I don't have any linux experience though, would it be a bad idea? I mean do I absolutely have to go the Ubuntu route?

Of course you dont have to install ubuntu. Go straight to Slackware if you want. Ubuntu is the easiest way to lose your linux virginity.
I dont know why you mention puppy and dsl. Both of those are unremarkable distros. If you want fast go with debian sans gnome or kde. If you want to be really fast, load all your shit into your RAM.

Ubuntus noob friendlyness is the most overrated thing in the *nix world.
1. You'll have to edit config files to display the correct resolution (puppy handled this fine)
2. It plays dick all media formats out of the box (puppy will play just about everything except WMAs)
3. Mounting and unmounting drives is extremely unintuitive, puppys "pmount" blows it out of the water.
IMO, puppy is a much better first linux choice. Give it a go.

Nice, I think I will. Do you have any suggestion as far as puppy derivatives go?
