My first opioid experience after 1+ years clean...
..."trip report" in a couple hours. About to get my wisdom teeth extracted within the hour under IV sedation (Versed+Fentanyl, most likely).
Note I am no longer the decrepit junkie I used to be, and have since then all but forgotten the warm cloud 9 that opioid use is.
Wish me luck.
And something better than Tylenol 3s.

If your doctor is an ass, then you'll get ibuprofen.
Slightly less than an ass, but still a jerk, codeine (T3's).
If he's super cool, you'll get a script for some percs.
But most likely you'll get vicodin, which is good if you aren't actively using.
Peace.

you know, during my junk years, i always worried about if something happened and i ended up needing legitimate help, that they'd cut it off long before it was enough, or i would simply not go out....
good luck dude, your tolerance is neligble.

That kid, who was 16, went to rehab and learned that there is more to life than chemical "love."
Somebody to change the name of this thread to "absolutecaliber is a fucking tool"
I don't know why, but when they offered to knock me out for the procedure, a little voice inside my head said "dude, just man the fuck up."
- I was concious throughout the whole thing, for four impacted extractions.
Yes, I suffered. Suffered so much he wrote me a script for percocets, which, again listening to that angel (devil?) on my shoulder told me to summarily refuse.
So fuck, I'm a dumbass. But a clean dumbass.
I'm enjoying these Ibuprofen 200s though :)
Moral of the story: absolutecaliber is an idealistic dumbass, but if you can live with the short duration of the post-procedural pain, then by all means do it.
Life's been great without drugs, and I look forward to completely forgetting the feeling of bliss that comes with opioid use.

You could probably get most hardcore NA members to literally suck your dick off with a story like that.
Congrats, though. I don't really think having the desire to be put out for a tooth extraction has anything to do with "manning up", but hey, to each their own. Everyone has different limits to their sobriety and you obviously know yours rather well.

That doesn't mean that some people still don't get sober on their first try. In my opinion, if AC is already turning down scripts from doctors while being willing to go through physical pain in order to avoid even the remote possibility of getting high, he sounds like he's certainly well on the way to an honest and committed sobriety.

Thanks for the kind words, PoC.
And I may add, I smoked weed daily this summer but took a break about mid-June for tolerance/college. Of course, as any respectable TOTSE member will be quick to point out, marijuana is hardly a drug.
So my 18th birthday, (tomorrow), will probably end up with me being sober LOL. Seeing as I can't drink because of the clotting, can't smoke for the same reason (well I could chance a grav bong, but again I'm on a break), and am in general not going to be in the mood to do so this *may* be a BLTC first in a while.

No problem man. And happy birthday-- I always seem to forget that you're younger than me for some reason.
Likely a dumb question, but why can't you drink (if you wanted to) tomorrow? My logic tells me it's because alcohol thins the blood and that's how the clotting would fuck up but correct me if I'm wrong.

I'd say he's probably going to do pretty well if he turned down not only the script, but the sedation as well.
Good luck though OP, you made a responsible decision which is rare to see around here.

Yeah, but I was like that too until I started daydreaming about how great it was being high. Opiates are just a tough addiction. Cigs, booze, pot, those are easy to kick, but opiates have a way of creeping back into my life at least.

Exactly, it would fuck with the clots over each of my extraction sites. The problem isn't once it's in my blood, it's actually getting there that would dissolve the clots and possibly even lead to dry-socket.
LOL ibupofen actually works, hard to believe. Took the recommended 800mg on a full stomach, and my cheeks are hardly swollen and the pain has significantly abated.

Nope, not eprime. Still the ole' Dr. Caliber on call :D

Re: My first opioid experience after 1+ years clean...
Yeh, it shows a lot of determination and willpower that you refused, obviously, though if you were too nervous to do so and wanted the sedation/analgesic affects, you could've/should've just explained to your doctor honestly the situation to inform him/her of your possible tolerance, slight/non-existent though it would be at this time, and your psychological dependence and former physical addiction. I'm sure he would've either not used it, or used the proper amount to knock you out without really letting you feel the high consciously.

^Nah, having grown up with my father as a doc it's sad that they tend to label you as "high-risk" in a cute little side not on your medical record, and at that point you're fucked. Also, the physiological tolerance would have flat-lined long before my 1 year mark. Any tolerance past that mark would be purely psychological, and being of that nature would be easier to suppress and control.
Could have, should have, would have, it's all good. Day 2 is without pain for the most part, nothing an Motrin 800 couldn't solve.
Really it's the inflammation that's a killer, but that's what NSAIDs are good for, right?

HIPPAA laws now make this old practice not only useless but illegal as well.

HIPPAA laws now make this old practice not only useless but illegal as well.
Sadly, HIPPAA laws are loosely-interpreted regarding doctor-doctor interactions (especially involving patient transfers) where they deem the patient's history to be medically relevant.
Substance abuse being one of those things they consider relevant. :(

My doctor who took out my wisdom teeth was somewhat of an arrogant bastard but he gave me percs and the guy that was in before me got oxycontin for whatever oral surgery he had done.
