Default Quad or Duo for gaming

Hello.

I was just wondering what is better for playing high end games (Crysis CoD4) a Core 2 Duo or a Quad, I may be running a web page on the second screen at the same time, how much difference would it make on the CPU?

Cheers

Forgot to mention, If I am going to get a Duo it will be a E8400 or E8500 and if I was to get a Quad core it would be a Q6600 or Q6700, I don't think I would overclock a Duo, but there is a fair chance that I would overclock the Quad; and what would you recommend from each type?

I'm sure the 8400 will do you just fine. You can easily overclock them to the level of an 8500, without having to pay the factory to do it for you.

Quads are still not being fully optimised.

Very few (if any) games these days are truly optimized for 4 cores. You might as well save some money and get a dual-core.

On the flip side, the Q6600 overclocks like a champ...

E8400 is $10 less than a Q6600 on newegg.

Be a winner, get a quad.

This post has made me want nothing but a quad core once I get around to getting a processor.

I'd also recommend googling around a bit.= before making a final decision.

I have 6600 in my desktop and it runs like a champ for gaming. Haven't done much with two screens but it was running Portal on one screen and Firefox with multiple youtube tabs open on the other fine last week.

I don't recommend duel screening for gaming due to the fact that Sli is nullified.
