When defatting the fat layer was at the bottom instead of in the middle. Why?

And at the end when dripping water into the xylene to get the alkaloids into the water, the water dripped down to the bottom instead of staying at the top??

The finished product was yellowish crystals..

Was this a fail ?

Hehe, just trying to get more traffic over there. Everyone seems to think that just because it involves drugs it goes here for some reason. If it involves extraction, synthesis, or any chemistry, you put it there, you will get much better answers, provided you aren't being a lazy bitch and asking a REALLY general easy question. The defat's done during the base phase for mescaline, right? I thought that should just separate into 2 layers - the top layer containing all the fats and the bottom Xylene layer containing your mescaline freebase.

As to why the water went to the bottom - ask LT. This is all just my theory/ me trying to learn, anyway.
