Exclamation Ghetto Ways to Soundproof a Room?

I'm moving into a house with my band-mates soon and we want to party but also keep it low-key. I need any ideas on ways to soundproof a room.

We've done carpet/cardboard/carpet layers before, but it hardly worked to the desired effect. Granted we were in a barn, but our jam area now is just going to be a normal sized room, so it'll be much easier.

mods: not sure if this is the right forum for this, move accordingly.

Do all your ghetto layering, and then 3 INCHES OFF OF THAT (three inch space) have blankets hanging.

just plain cardboard egg-cartons work pretty well in my experience in soundproofing a studio/jam area (but i don't know all what your planning on using the space for). most soundproofing foam material isn't really all that exspensive either, but yeah might as well do it for free if you can.

I'd prefer to do it for free, because we're strapped for cash.

There's a dumpster behind this random carpet store, and we can get boxes from gas stations, blankets aren't a problem either but that 3 inch set-up seems abit awkward. If it works then so be it, but I'm thinking they'll get ripped down easily.

Just wondering, but what about that spray insulation foam stuff? It would get pretty expensive, but just that all inside the walls, or bulid extra partition type things and fill those with it.

THIS. The more space there is between each layer of padding or whatever, the less sound you will hear.

Carpet underlay is a good material if you can get it. The denser the better.

When I was working construction renovating appartment buildings we used these big green boards called Sonna panels or some shit. We'd put them up behind the drywall but you could probably just nail them on the outside of the walls.

Build an internal wall out of 40's and plug up the holes with roaches and broken crack pipes.
