If there's not $20 in the account, they won't let you withdraw $20. And If you make a deposit on a Sunday, that's not a business day...so that $20 check won't get put in your account until Monday at the earliest anyway.

Yes. you can withdraw money that has not cleared yet, but if the check doesn't go through it will be yanked from your account. As long as it takes more than 24(?) hours to charge purchases to your account, you're good. I still recommend, if this really is only $20 (I get the distinct impression it's a fair amount more) to just borrow it.

generally, you can immediately withdraw money from a check, IF AND ONLY IF IT IS PAYROLL. meaning, no personal checks.

I pulled a stunt kinda like this one time. I have my check from work split in two and deposited in two different banks. The problem I ran into, I needed to deposit money in before 2pm which is when you run into the accounting hour which gets you the nsf penalties. I went to the bank and wrote a check out of one bank to put into the other knowing there was money in neither, but I was in before the 2 pm deadline and I was going to be paid before the check could be accounted for. It all worked out for the good.
Now for the ass kicker. I got a "stimulation check" and I didn't think much of signing the back. I wrote for deposit only on the back and deposited it. Well about three days later, the deposit was reversed and the check was sitting in the head office 2400 miles away. I raised three shades of hell and they shipped my check back from Ca. They reversed all the dumb ass charges until it was redeposited my mine and my forged wifes signatures.
