Games People Play Games People Play is where to discuss personal computer, video game console, and arcade hardware and software - be it RPG, Sim, Strategy, Fighting, Action/Platform, or any other category. Although discussion of modern platforms/software will most likely dominate, discussion of classic videogame/computer hardware and software is always enjoyable, and certainly welcome - ESPECIALLY since there are public domain/shareware emulators of nearly every older computer/console available these days. Here's a taste of what awaits you: Nintendo-vs-Sega-vs-Sony, Console-vs-PC-vs-Mac, Hardware spec sheets/information, Industry news and discussion, Software reviews, IRC conference announcements/Reports, Emulators, Emulators, Emulators! ... and much, much more!

Default Worth it?

I'm not sure if this will get better answers here or in T&T, but I'm hoping somebody actually does this, so I think here is best.

I finally caved in and bought an Xbox 360. Naturally, my initial $150 to a friend who upgraded to an Elite has turned into several hundred more in games and accessories. Now, after seeing a few friends' in action, I really want an HD TV for it, but I certainly can't afford one.

Now I may not have an HD TV, but I do have two shiny 22" LCD computer monitors. They're fairly new, good response time and all that. The store I work at sells MS branded 360 > VGA cable for $40 (minus my 15% discount).

Anybody actually use one of these? I can't see any reason not to, other than that any time I've tried to do TV jobs with a PC monitor it was less than what I'd hoped for. Think it'd be worth it? Any problems with them?

Thanks &t

There were initially problems with limited resolutions while using VGA cables, but I think they've fixed most of those with firmware updates. You'll end up in 1280x726 [or 720] resolution.

VGA is pretty much the best picture quality you can get. It's what I use, and I'm very happy with it.

Also, I was in Toys R Us the other day, and they were selling the VGA cable on clearance for $9.98. We got ours when they had them for $29.98 on sale a year ago. For $9.98 you can't go wrong.

As far as I know, there isn't a toys r us still in business within a few hundred miles of me. I picked up the cable today, hopefully I'll be able to give it a shot in the next few days. We'll see how it goes. My boss promised to let me return it if it sucks.
