Alright, so a few months ago I stopped drinking and using drugs to focus on school, now I've worked my way up to the level one classes (I got bumped up last week). So last night I smoked a bong and drank wine with my friends, it was the first time I'd done it in ages but now I'm worried about all this shit you hear like "Drugs/Booze will fuck up your brain and make you dumb" and such. Is this true? If I take up this lifestyle again will it fuck up my success at school?

Though I will say that pot has the potential to totally destroy one's motivation if abused. (Not everyone, but some, I'm one of them).

Plenty of intelligent people smoke cannabis, and plenty of intelligent people drink alcohol.

That being said, plenty of stupid people do both.

And that being said, I still smoke cannabis daily, but now I smoke it appropriately.

It all comes down to who you are. Some people can do anything drunk and stoned, some people are hopeless. I try to avoid going to class stoned, because I tend to get distracted too easily.

So yes and no. The potential to destroy your academic career is certainly there, but if you manage your habits properly, any such potential will not manifest itself.

Without sounding too arrogant, compared to most people I know I am quite a lot cleverer than them, and take interest in the subjects I do, but if I didn't smoke weed then I probably could have done better, as it hasn't really made me dumb or whatever, it's just made me unmotivated to do anything more than the minimum required.

But I went to 2 grammar schools [the intelligent schools in England ;)] and in both of them I was in the top 25 for the sciences and maths.

Weed is fine, there has been a study that showed smoking cigarettes lowers IQ, even though drinking like an alcoholic is proven to cause brain damage, I have yet to see anything that shows moderate drinking, or even heavy drinking a couple times a month, causes brain damage.

To be fair, jenkins actually put his own first name (it was in his e-mail address), though it wasn't obvious enough for just anyone to make that connection. What Chichi did was make that connection obvious.

Mine dropped when I started smoking daily, I think that was because school just got harder though. The funny thing is that in 9th grade when I was getting the worst grades I've ever gotten I was smoking like once a week and hardly ever did anything else. My cumulative is still like a 3.1 or something though, good enough for state which was what I wanted to go to anyways.

It would be kinda cool though to be able to go back and work my ass off taking APs and all that stuff just to see how many more options I'd have now.

The lifestyle can have a detrimental effect on your studies, depending on who you are. With me, I think it has stopped me from being the top in every class, as i was, but I'm still getting top marks - and in my opinion its worth it - kids normally stop caring, drugs or no drugs.

I have a friend who goes to (debateably, obviously) the best University in the world - if not then the country - and just got a 1st with distinction in Physics, whilst dealing and consuming a huge amount of drugs. :D
