Re: Doing Drugs.
I don't know, I've always wondered about that.
The most fundamental religious types think that any sort of intoxication is a sin, but they also think that masturbation is a sin along with having sex in any position other than missionary. Fundamentalists FTL
Christian monks in Europe have been brewing high gravity beers for hundreds of years now, for them alcohol intoxication is a form of transcendental spirituality.
It's kind of common sense that fucking yourself up is wrong and Christian faith typically considers any unhealthy practice to be a sin by defiling the house of God (your body). So, yeah, doing drugs is probably a sin.
But there's nothing in principle wrong with drug taking, it's only wrong if it is effecting you negatively, you consciously reflect on this, and continue taking your poison of choice. And even then it's not wrong in a moral sense, only an ethical one. And most of us could give fuckall for morals or ethics, so toke up little buddy.

Re: Doing Drugs.
Who's to say which drugs are bad and which ones are fine?
I do drugs mainly because they make me feel better and the people who call them bad are ones who have had bad experiences with them because they overused or ignorant people who have an opinion yet have never tried them themselves.
SO WHOS TO SAY WHICH ARE BAD OR GOOD?

Re: Doing Drugs.
Well, if you mean sin in a biblical context: I would say no.
I am an atheist with respect to all religions, but from my interpretation of Christian theology:
- God created the universe, and God created us in his image.
- Our brains contain numerous receptors which bind to particular molecules.
- Some of these molecules exert an influence on our perception.
I would argue that if God intended for us not to use drugs, then he wouldn't have created a mechanism whereby the drugs can exert effects on our brains.
There are of course the Rastafarians, who closely follow Christian views and values. (And smoke a lot of pot.)
With regards to other religions? History is filled with examples of religions who use drugs (and meditation) to induce visions and other spiritual experiences.

Even if it is a sin, God forgives sins, so don't worry about it.

Re: Doing Drugs.
I don't think its a sin, because it never directly mentions it in the bible.
And
"Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things." (Genesis 9:3).
and alot of people use psychedelics for spiritual use, so I guess there fine.

Altering your own state of mind considered immoral and wrong? Giving varying levels of "wrongness" to different psychoactives?
Clearly the result of flawed human logic.

"Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things." (Genesis 9:3).
Eating meat for survival is a little different to getting wasted. It doesn't say: "Every moving thing that liveth shall be for you to get stoned;"
There is however the classic example of the anointing oil which contains cannabis (I can't be fucked looking for the passage, it is in Revelation ... I think).
Hell, caffeine and nicotine are drugs, but most religions have nothing against it. (Poor Mormons <- Almost spelled it morons, go figure).

Mushrooms always tell me drugs are bad, but I never listen. As for being a sin? No, unless you belong to some fucked up religion that prohibits happiness.

Re: Doing Drugs.
There are no sins, there is no hell, just metaphors for states of minds and things that obstruct the rest of your life experience.
Theres no "penalty" for doing drugs (or anything), imo. Becoming someone who cares about nothing else but drugs is becoming someone who ignores the rest of reality, and this could be seen as bad.
Instead of obsession over one part of life, I think we should all strive for the infinite, however we see it.

This. I've wondered about it breifly, like moments of fleeting thought. I always thought that so long as it wasn't harming me or anyone else in a negative way then its probably ok. Although that doesn't mean I'm not going to hell for it.

Their religion is the reason. It is self-perpetuating.
How does it feel to be so bigoted?
