Default Now I am starting to get a bit concerned..

Some of you might know about my thread "Reinventing myself REDUX".

Well, Despite the fact I getting much better at running, have controlled my diet, and even started the hundred pushup program, I seem to not be losing any weight.

At first I wrote it off as me not being able to tell because I rapidly swing weight all day anyways.

I did notice the following the though,

I have to wear a belt with my shorts now so they dont fall down when I run.

As a matter of fat it got to the point where I got some light weight running shorts in a smaller size.

That is progress, but I am still undefined in my book. This is why I started the pushup program. Week two is next week.

Anyways, I picked up a pedometer to help out with my goals. Not counting my runs, I get in about 15000 steps daily.

I do want to know if there is anything I can do for my entire body that is cardio related.

Anyways, my goals seem like they contradict each other. I mean losing wieght and gaining muscle......

I think the better term is to become more lean.

I am at a loss if I should run everyday or throw in a strength workout every other day like with the hundred pushup program.

Help me please?

These two seem to contradict each other. If you need a belt/smaller pants, then you probably have been losing weight, and therefore you should continue what you have been doing. btw, nice freudian typo: "As a matter of fat".

I'm no expert, but i think you should focus on cardio, then try and bulk up, because i think the two literally contradict each other, your losing weight whilst gaining it by building muscle.

When I started running, All I had were my cargo shorts. Then one day I kept having to pull them up. Then one day they fell down and I faceplanted into a cactus.

It could be a couple of things:

I somehow gained a pound or 2 in muscle

I can't tell because of weight gained when I hydrate.

I don't trust scales anyways.

MY next goal is to run 8 miles instead of 6 in one go.

pushups require pushing.
pushing is counter balanced by pulling.
pushing without pulling = imbalance.

consider all your muscles esp. legs and create a balanced workout.

Have any links to cardio besides running with minimal equipment?

To clarify myself, I'm not looking to bulk up or get ripped. I'd just like to be able to squat 325, bench 215, and run 15 or so miles.

Unrealistic goals? Maybe. I got in the shape I am in today because I didn't maintain any serious acitivity when I got booted from racing endurance XC mountain bike races. Back then I was built soley for endurance, nothing else. Now I am trying to find a balance.

Ok a few questions:

Will body weight squats and running 6 miles contradict each other?

Should I just have cardio days and strength days?

What are strength training excercises you can do with out equipment? (I have no acces to a gym. the nearest one is 30 miles away).

Any way I can make a pull up bat that attaches to a tree or something?

#1. No. After you can do enough of them, they'll feel like cardio.

#2. Sure.

#3. Sprints. If you have a car, put it in neutral and push it. Handstand pushups. Get a military duffle bag. Cut off the straps. Fill it with sand and treat it like a barbell.

#4. An easier option would be do get some thick rope (2-4" diameter), and climb that instead of setting up a pullup bar.

You can definitely be a well-rounded athlete; a jack-of-all-trades, as they say. Plenty of people (indeed, plenty of sprinters and runners) lift as well as run. If you're not training to look a certain way, you should definitely train for function. That is, get strong so you can lift heavy things, run so you can run fast, etc. Have you thought about mixing in some balance stuff, just for the hell of it? Like learning to do handstands, walk on railings, etc.

As for strength without equipment, look into plyometrics.

You can do both, but not 100% efficiently. I lost 40lbs upon working out lifting weights and running...but some times my weight/fat loss was at a minimum...but it can be done..as long as you have a proper diet.

And if you just started training...results dont come over night man...i hope to god thats not what your saying, that your concerned about weight loss after a week or two into your program?

It's actually the end of week 3 of my organized training program. And I only expect to lose a pound or so a week doing cardio everday even though I adjusted my diet and excercise times to lose 2 pounds weekly.
Things take time I know this-I used to race endurance XC (it took me a year to get to the point where I would win), but It really concerns me when you are on week 3 and the only thing that has changed is your ability.

I went into this to find a balance between endurance and strength, I am very concerned because my BMI was 24.4. I don't want to hit 25 If I can do anything to prevent it.

Thanks for the help.

I can still ride a 2 inch wide skinny that is 10 feet long, so balance is ok I guess.

Have any recommendations there? I'd love to know.

Ways to attain perfect health
1. Drop as many grains as you can. Any grains you eat should be whole grain, and even then... reduce that as much as you can.
2. You should be eating lots of meat, but try not to get the 'red' meat from the store, nitrosamines (something like that) are cancer causing when they come into contact with the hydrochloric acid in the stomach.
3. You should be getting no less than 8 hours of sleep. 7 is fine, just don't get 7 every night. If you get 6 or less, you're in a lot of trouble.
** If you wake up after 7 hours and 30 minutes and feel great, thats fine. Do what feels BEST, and do what your body tells you
4. Drop milk and dairy, this really fucks with your system. Never have cereal and milk together.
5. You should never touch sugar ever. Yes, read the ingredients on the back case. If you even touch one can of pop, you're fucked.
6. You should be jogging 20-30 minutes every day at minimum. Its fine to jog 5-6 days a week and take a break... don't wear out the knees.
7. Eat tons of fruit and vegetables. If you want, eat lots of eggs. When you reduce the amount of grains you eat, you might feel a bit lightheaded or sick in the first few days. Your body may reverse and totally detox.
8. If its too hard for you to quit grains, go off them slowly. Don't do abrupt changes. I did abrupt changes and you just feel like shit.
9. Ideally try and be happier. Smile more, be happy for everything...etc; makes a world of difference.

That is a great way to get rid of *bad* fat, and you should technically NEVER get the flu ever in your life.
Yeah, I don't get the flu ever, and I follow the above.

** NOTE: Some people are protien type, carbohydrate type, or both. There is not one good guide for everyone, do what feels best. Just eat both carbs and protein to be totally safe. If you're a carbohydrate and you eat lots of meat you will get fat. If you're protein and you eat tons of carbs your stomach will enlarge.
Seeing natural health doctors can help huge.

Body building
1. Work out at a gym, and work lots of muscles
2. Dont just do pushups. They're good for biceps and triceps and chest muscles, but there is so much more! You want to have a well defined upper body. Try rowing, try pull downs, try chin ups, work those abs. Don't be unbalanced, it looks fucking terrible if you see someone who works on only a few parts and neglects the rest.
3. Protein shakes?
4. Look up CREATIN (ignore the capitals for emphasis)
5. Work at your own levels, more muscle = more work though.

Hope that helps.

I love how you slip some kind of endurance XC reference in to virtually every thread you post.

And here's a relevant story for you:

When I was 13, I was pretty badly overweight; like people-in-the-street-made-fun-of-me overweight. One day I decided that I'd has enough of looking like a pig, and I fixed my diet, starting on a cardio program.

6 weeks later I looked in the mirror and still saw the same fat guy. It demoralised me, and I was pretty close to just giving up because in my eyes I'd put in so much work and had achieved fuck all.

Then I met up with a friend I hadn't met for a while. She looked at me and said "holy mother of fuck you've lost a lot of weight. How did you do it?"

Moral of the story - don't trust self perception. Only trust the statistics you get from the tape measure.

I didn't say the scales, because the results from them tend to fluctuate a lot due to eating, needing the toilet and building muscle.

You get that shit from sodium nitrate/nitrite used in the preservation of meat, and it's in practically all commerical meats.
