City flourishes under anarchy
Ever heard of Kowloon City?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kowloon_Walled_City
"Although the walled city was described as a hotbed of criminal activities, the daily lives of its dwellers were largely organized by the residents themselves, rather than by the Triad. Most residents were not involved in any crime and lived peacefully within its walls. Many charities and religious groups helped to improve the lives of residents"
"With the Triads weakened, a sort of synergy blossomed, and the Walled City began to grow almost organically"
I know that the Libertarian ideology, particularily with Ron Paul made a lot of noise on the Internet, so I thought this would make a good example on what a society becomes without any authority. I think that it really requires a deep thought to apprehend this ideology with a critical point of view.

Re: City flourishes under anarchy
i can see it happening, unfortunately it wouldn't work as well in America because people tend to be more...greedy? It's hard to describe, but people in china tend to have a kind of hive-minded kind of society going if they are in that kind of situation while "white" societies tend to exert their individualism far more
or at least that's what i think

Re: City flourishes under anarchy
"By the early 1980s, Kowloon Walled City had an estimated population of 35,000. Being a lawless land, the city was notorious for its excess of brothels, casinos, opium dens, cocaine parlours, food courts serving dog meat, and secret factories. The Kowloon Walled City was also infamous for its high number of unsanitary dentist clinics, since this was where unlicensed dentists could operate without prosecution."
Good while it lasted...

You're pretty much correct.
Western society promotes the betterment of the individual.
Eastern society promotes the betterment of the family.

This place looks like a shithole. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:H...hwest_1990.jpg
"The quality of life in the city, sanitary conditions in particular, was far behind the rest of Hong Kong."

Re: City flourishes under anarchy
an interesting experiment would be recreating it.
If I ever get my 2 million or whatever I'll invest in some walls in the desert and build a city.

The United States government would be all over this place, is you intend for it to be an anarchy. Your better off buying an island nation in international waters.

When will people learn that communism/anarchy doesn't work in populations of over 100,000?
And Libertarian ideology is far from anarcho-communism.
Libertarians believes that the government should grant people the maximum amount of rights, without any of those rights interfering with others' rights. Also, government should exist at a minimum, and only exist to serve the people.
Anarchy is no government. Everyone for themselves.
