Default When do I apply patches?

I have with me here the tarball for thunar file browswer, as well as two patches.

how on earth do I apply the patches, and where in the compiling process do I do it?

EDIT: yes I've checked the read me and the commented out lines in the patches themselves, as well as googled.

Why don't you just install it from the package manager?

You apply patches with the patch command, by the way. Before you compile it, so you know, the patches get compiled.

so patch <whatever else> && ./configure && make.

1. Because it's about god damn time I learnt the ins and outs of building from source
2. My distros package manager is pretty basic, and it's probably not even in there.

But thanks, I'll give that a go

Complex people need to act stupid sometimes.
This is what schooling has taught me.

The first link I get after typing...

patch

into google...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patch_(Unix)

Sometimes things are simpler than you think they are.

Now that you know patch is a command find the manpage.

Code:
# patch thunar-vfs/thunar-vfs-volume-hal.c Thunar-0.9.0-missing-audio-cds-for-volman.patch

patching file thunar-vfs/thunar-vfs-volume-hal.c

# patch thunar/thunar-shortcuts-view.c Thunar-0.9.0-use-eject-where-necessary.patch

patching file thunar/thunar-shortcuts-view.c

can't find file to patch at input line 29

Perhaps you should have used the -p or --strip option?

The text leading up to this was:

--------------------------

|Index: thunar/thunar-tree-view.c

|===================================================================

|--- thunar/thunar-tree-view.c  (revision 26456)

|+++ thunar/thunar-tree-view.c  (revision 26459)

Lol, I'd suggest sticking to Nautilus if you don't want to go through the hassle of using Thunar. Damn, Thunar sounds like some sort of Titan.

Not a fan of nautilus.

besides the browser installed onto that system is Rox filer, which is truly heinous.

Anyway, I managed to change the patches, but now I have to change several PKG_CONFIG_PATH things, and it's telling me I don't have gtk2.

I'll figure it out.
