I've been on 10 mgs of citalopram daily for a few days now to treat my social anxiety. My phyciatrist says that it takes two weeks to take effect and I can drink alcohol lightly although I've heard different. It's important to me to become socially relaxed but I don't want to give up drugs and alcohol.

I want to know what drugs are reasonably safe to take while on SSRIs. I hear that weed can make me anxious when taken together but it only has that effect for like a day so I can try it and decide for myself if I want to keep smoking; same with alcohol. I'm more worried about stuff that could cause brain damage like extacy or stuff that could bring up dormant phycological problems like acid or mushrooms. What about morning glory seeds? And DXM? What are negative longterm effects of taking DXM if it's the only active ingredient? I've read a little about serotonin syndrome but I don't really understand it.

I know that if I was on MAOIs these would all be out of the question but I don't think this is also true for low amounts of SSRIs. I just don't want to be fucking up my body parts and my mind. Knowlegeable answers only, please.

Ugh. Your on a very low dose of SSRI's: It is generally a good idea to stay away from DXM and XTC while on an SSRI, since they both interact with serotonin. And yes, you serotonin syndrome is not fun in any way shape or form.

As for alcohol and weed, you shouldnt experience any change. I was on high dose SSRI's for awhile and I smoked everyday and drank every weekend with no ill effects.

And no, shrooms and acid DO NOT cause brain damage. If you are troubled or seriously 'depressed', I would recommend you stay away from these types of drugs anyway. But if you are sound of mind, there is no reason why you shouldnt be able to have a fun time tripping. BTW SSRI's fucking suck balls, there completley useless; next time you go back to your doctor backhand that motherfucker.

Opiates are no problem. SSRIs can make the effects of amphetamines like adderall stronger though and the two drugs could interact and could lead to symptoms of serotonin syndrome, so I've read. I've known tons of people who are on SSRIs and use Adderall occasionally though, so it would *probably* be ok if you dont make a habit out of it or use the Adderall for like 3 days straight.

virtually any downer is safe to take. well, sometimes... they get a boost in potency whilst being on ssri's. but your dose is particularly low, so you shouldn't worry. but yeah, alcohol, benzos, opiates, weed, and the such would be fine to take, but maybe a little stronger than if you weren't on the ssri.

say no to e, and dxm, like the other poster stated. and uh, uppers i hear are less effective on these, but i'm not sure to what extent. i've heard the same with psychedelics... maybe you'd need to take more to get to where you want to be. but yeah, good luck. i've been on the stuff you're on; about 40mg / day, and believe me, i felt damn good 3 weeks later after stopping the shit. get off while you can, man.
