Emo rap??
I recently got a friend request on myspace from this guy: Link.
I've found there's a whole breed of these kind of white boy rappers who dress like nu-rave / emo kids in Birmingham (the UK's city of rap ).
Basicly they take emo sort of songs, put a hip-hop beat over it and rap some heart wrenching lyrics to it.
Here's some more:
Moost Mashu.
Arista.
What does &totse think?
Personally I think it's gay; since I showed my girlfriend I havn't heard the end of it

Re: Emo rap??
wow, that's shit.
beats suck. i can't understand what hes saying, and if i could i doubt it would appeal to me. every verse sounds the same too, it's awfully repetitive.
as for emo rap, Atmosphere is good. Slug is a great lyricist. Aesop Rock is great too if you want to consider him emo rap.
ed: i just clicked on the Arista link. i could actually understand what he was saying, and i can say i like it a whole lot more when i can't. his lyrics were absolute shit. i'd expect more from a person defined by the word emotional. fuck this, i'm not clicking any more links in this thread.
oh, and i hate to generalize but brits with thick accents like that should not MC. (feel free to prove me wrong on this one.)

Re: Emo rap??
rap and hip hop has been rather dissapointing in the 2000's, the 90's had kick ass rap/hip hop. the 00's had a few jems, but overal it has been meh.

He makes reference to something (presumably, his music) being called "emo" in the first track of "Human: The Death Dance". Also, his most recent album was called "Human: The Death Dance".
Also, this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v127/DOCTORGONZO409/sagepolaroid.jpg
Edit: I thought I should add that I'm a huge Sage fan and don't listen to other music that would be called "emo", at least not in the strictest sense. I was just pointing out that he seems more emo to me than Atmosphere.

waaaat... please good sir, explain yourself for i?
i mean i know they have doen a few tracks together, and they are both emotional in their work but atmosphere talks more about everyday life and women and growing and etc...
sage francis does as well but alot of his material is more towards the political sense.

this is basically what i was getting at. i don't think it's really debateable though. it's kind of hard to decide which rapper puts more emotion into his lyrics.

Re: Emo rap??
I'd say Sage talks about family and relationship problems slightly less than slug, but then I haven't seen Slug wearing one of those black t-shirts with a bloody heart on it like all the emo kids wear, whereas Sage has elected to wear one on the cover of his last album.
I'd say Slug talks more about women and his parents being dead and stuff, but Sage addresses everything in a more emo-y tone than Slug.
