Asking her parents?
So I am planning on asking my girlfriend to marry me. I First plan on asking her parents. Here is the problem. Her parent's are separated. She lives with her mom while she's going to college, and when she is working, she lives at her dad's. Who do I ask? Do I ask her dad or her mom. If I ask both, Who do I ask first?

Re: Asking her parents?
Her Mum is irrelevant..... the tradition goes back centuries.... and it has ALWAYS been the father you have to ask, unless he's dead, then like you ask the grandfather etc etc the mother is a last resort.

Re: Asking her parents?
That sounds like it would be the best idea to me, too.
If you talk to, or get along with the mother, it couldn't hurt to give her the respect of asking her as well. That's just my opinion though, nothing of tradition etc.

Re: Asking her parents?
If you two are the same age her parents might not be to happy with this idea. But I wish you the best.

Re: Asking her parents?
I don't think you should be asking her parents at all. Its your girlfriend that you want to get married to, therefore her response is the only one that should really matter... at least in my oppinion.
Honostly, if they said "no"...what would you do? Wouldn't you just marry the chick you wanted to anyways? I know I would...
Just seems like a lame outdated tradition to me.

It's really just a matter of respect.
If you're a kind and respectful enough person to willingly ask that, you probably also get along with the parents enough to not worry about them saying no.

Re: Asking her parents?
If you're kind to the parents the girl you will end up marrying will be happy. Rather than if you're like "Fuck your parents" by not asking them, therefor disrespecting the father and the family.
I say go with enset's advice.

Re: Asking her parents?
Ask the father. Yea, it is a little bit outdated in some aspects but if the guy asked me before he proposed to my daughter he would get a lot of respect points.

Ask the father, tell the mother.
