Few Questions About Vicodin
I've been taking 5/500 Vicodin's for almost a month now, the doctor gave me 50. I want to say maybe I take 3-4 a day for my back (right shoulder).
I just got into physical therapy and basically I was told that my left scapula sticks out and is bigger than my right and from the look and feel of my back it seems as if I'm left handed when I've been right handed all my life. How the majority of my muscle is on my left instead of right I don't know.
Given that information (I know you don't know my doctor) but do you think my doctor will refill my Vicodin in about a week? Cause I mean the Vicodin's barely cut the pain as it is, mostly when I'm at work, and when I'm trying to fall asleep/wake up. I don't think 3-4 a day is abusing them, and considering they are weak. I'm just really worried I'm not going to get a refill and I'm going to be in more pain.
Also ever since I started taking the Vicodin I've been getting crazy acid reflux in the morning...like it feels as if everything is stuck in my throat. I've tried downing some Rolaids but it's actually giving me a stomach ache, so is there anything you would suggest to stop the acid reflux in the morning? I remember having this problem when I was really big into Oxy, but I would take another Oxy and forget about it, I don't want to abuse the Vicodin since it's not recreational for me right now.
Another reason I'm worried about the refill is that the doctor said I can't take Ibuprofen or Naproxen due to the Lithium I take cause something about it can build up a toxicity in my body fast. So I'll be kind of fucked as far as pain.

Re: Few Questions About Vicodin
Tell him the truth then, and play it the fuck up.
Make it seem like you REALLY need them and keep mentioning that they don't even do shit anymore.
So he may refill your shit and even up the dose.
Don't act like a complete tweak who hasn't had his fix and you should be fine. Usually they can tell the legitamacy right away if you really need them or are just looking to sell/abuse your prescription.

This. You sound like you have a legitimate medical issue, and seeing as it was the physical therapist who made this observation about your back and not some junkie's infamous self-diagnostic skills, I don't see any reason why it would throw up a red flag to your doctor assuming you don't look or act like someone who's just a fiend. Considering you've said yourself you only take 3-4 a day, that's definitely not the case.
You made 50 pills last a month- and most prescriptions are 1-2 tablets PRN/4-6 hours, which would mean on a bad day, you could down anywhere from 8 to 12 of them. A typical junkie is going to "need" both available tablets every 4 hours regardless...and that rate of consumption will leave the pill bottle empty in less than a week.
You'll be fine as far as a refill but docs tend to vary on how they go about increasing dosages for opiate-based medications. Either way in your situation I think the worst that can happen if you gradually approach the possibility of an increased dosage would be for him to say no. Doesn't really mean he's gonna cut you off completely just for asking.

Re: Few Questions About Vicodin
Thanks.
Anyone have ideas about why I'm getting the acid reflux since taking Vicodin or what's going on with that?

Prilosec helps the acid refulx thing. You can go the natural (and maybe cheaper) route and get those DanActive probiotic drinks. They look like little shots of liquid yogurt, and they do help (you just need one a day, maybe 2)

Re: Few Questions About Vicodin
zantac 75/150 works for acid reflux, too. and yeah, you can say you've been taking 3 a day for the pain, maybe some days 4 if the pain is excruciating. but yet, you still find that it doesn't do much for the pain you get. you need to play this out well, though. these doctors aren't stupid, and if you fuck up, he'll know most likely.
but i think what the other poster said was valid; that bringing up the possibility of a gradual increase would somehow light up a red flag in the doctor's brain. he needs to be the one who brings it up, and i am sure that your physical therapist can vouch for you. good luck.

Don't wait till you go see him again to tell him the vicodin sucks. Call his ass and tell him you're in a shit ton of pain.

This. I remember when Vicodin stopped working. I called and told the doctor and he upped the dosage a tad bit. Worked fine, especially since it was legit. Usually doctors are cautious about changing the dosage but I'm sure if you tell him to talk to your therapist or whatever you'll get the dosage you need. As for the acid reflux: you should mention that too. He should help you out.

Exactly. if you can bear the pain until your next appointment then the meds are doing their job. If you call up before your next visit and tell him the pain is still there or getting worse that would mean that the meds are not working and something needs to be changed.
