It means that the CD isn't booting. This is a Very Bad Thing and should not happen due to any fault of your own. Are you sure the disc isn't munged up somehow? Also, are you using the latest stable release, 2008.0, or one of the 2008.0 betas?

Try running an integrity check on the disk. You should always check the disk if you have liveCD boot issues.

Ah. Does the Gentoo CD not have that as a boot option?

You might want to try reburning it, and if that fails then look on the bug tracker or forum and see if anyone else has the same issue.

I rulled out the cd. I left in my laptop cd drive and it booted itself up, (I walked away) it went through everything and said livecd#root: prompt. I starting to think the computer i using just doesn't like linux. I tried ubuntu it locks up. I tried gentoo and it does this.

Computers aren't magic. See my post in the Debian thread for more ranting about that.

However, if Ubuntu locked up, and Gentoo failed copying the content of the LiveCD into a ramdisk, then maybe your RAM is bad. Run the Memtest86+ boot option off of the Gentoo live CD to check for this. You should let it go at least one or two passes, depending on how much RAM you have it might take a while.
