Default Borderline Personality Disorder

Has anyone ever met anyone with BPD? I understand what it is, but it just seems like anyone who is an addict, an out of control teen, a whore, a adrenaline junkie, a douchebag, ANYone who acts "crazy" could potentially fall under the category of borderline disordered.

So what are they really like?

Because they could. It's just one of those bullshit catch-alls.

I know a woman with it. Don't know her reeeeeally well but I know her enough. She is the most lovely friendly person, is in her late 30's and has a child, and definitely doesn't have an attitude problem or act "crazy"..... In fact unless she'd told me she had it I really wouldn't have known there was anything wrong with her at all. So yeah..... it's a bit of a mystery to me as well.

I have BPD and I used to fit into almost all those categories. But 4 years of therapy fixed many of them, I still go from STRONG feelings of absolutely loving someone to hating them, and back again over the course of a few hours or days. It's like being bipolar with an extreme urge to hurt yourself.

Sounds like one of those things you can self diagnose to make up for your inferiorities as a human.

I suck with people so i have aspergers guizesz.

that's all any medical lables are; minus the 'self' part.

I mean, I really want to hurt myself sometimes. It's a strong urge to physically injure myself; even emotionally injure myself, it feels good to sit for hours alone and cry and sob and think and sleep.

I'm not sure I guess.
Have you ever been standing on top of a building and when you look down you have a strange urge to fall...? ...like something other than gravity wants to pull you down.

It's kind of like that, but you have the urge to stab yourself in the leg with a pen or jump in front of a bus.

I don't think people get it: while borderline can have attention-whore characteristics... that and the self-injurious/suicide attempts are very separate traits. I'd like to make that very clear.

I thought the same thing when I first read the DSM criteria. I was like: so what the fuck is this shit? I think the self-harm thing is a pretty strong characteristic of whatever it is. And attention-whorish "suicide attempts" too maybe.

So, the suicidal-ness is not an attention-whore thing... but I thought suicide attempts were "cries for help"? So BSD people just want to hurt themselves, but not necessarily gain attention through it? I'm confusing myself.

Also, another question I have is I know BSD lists "promiscuity" as one of the symptoms or whatever, but if promiscuity is ever an issue- isn't that a sex addiction?

Just because the suicide isn't completed, doesn't mean that they did it for attention.. Sometimes it could be because it got interrupted and the person was giving medical help.

I guess that BPD people do have the urge to hurt themselves but don't go threw with it..

Self injurers, like myself actually go threw with the thoughts of hurting themselves..

You are confusing yourself because you have absolutely no idea what BPD is like. Suicidal tendencies and promiscuity are more common in women who are borderline. I have BPD and I have only had a few suicidal episodes in the past 7 years.

Borderline women can be promiscuous because they believe they are worthless and deserve to be exploited, hence their pursuit of sex. If they are abused, it only reasserts their belief and that can be paradoxically comforting.
Then again, there are borderline women who hate sex due to past mistreatment.

I do constantly think about suicide but I don't advertise that to friends, again, it's the women who are more likely to seek attention through self harm. Self harm is not entirely for attention though, it temporarily gets rid of the emptiness.
I prefer shopping though.
It's not fair to say that I'm exempt from this though, I am rather self-centred and I tend to seek attention quite a lot of the time.

BPD feels like you are completely devoid of any purpose or direction and are just daydreaming your way through life, it can become completely unbearable, which is why we consider suicide at times and engage in endorphin-releasing activities, such as cutting or listening to loud music.

I also think in extremes, something is either good or bad, or I don't give a fuck about it. The problem is, my beliefs are constantly changing along with my mood, so I am completely erratic and self-contradictory in conversation.
