Default the belief system of drug users

Bored analysis of the ever progressing belief system of the drug user

Stage 1

Drugs are evil. The (future) drug user does not understand why people use drugs. They're addictive, bad for your health, and simply not worth the risk. Beer and coffee are okay, though, because they're not nearly as addictive as illegal drugs, aren't cut with toxic adulterants and most illegal drugs are distributed by violence gangs and terrorist groups in the middle east. 'I'm not old enough to drink yet though, as I haven't turned 21 yet', thinks the future drug user.

Stage 2

The drug user turns 13 and gets drunk for the first time at a friend's house. Alcohol rules! Whoooooooh!! Who needs illegal drugs when you can drink 5 shots of Breezer and get totally wasted? 'I've seen some kids smoke cigarettes and marijuana, but they're just losers trying to act cool in front of their friends', thinks the drug user.

Stage 3

The drug user turns 14 and smokes weed for the first time at a friend's house. Weed rules! Whoooooooh!! Who needs hard drugs when you can smoke dank weed? Unlike hard drugs such as heroin and meth, marijuana is not addictive and has no real disadvantages to your physical and mental health worthy of mention. The drug user registers on pro-legalization forums, discusses the merits of weed decriminalization tirelessly with his friends, and readily shows off his Bob Marley posters and hemp keychains to his fellow classmates in an effort to spread the good word about the green herb. The drug user is hesitant about trying psychedelics however, although his newfound pals from the internet seem to have only positive things to say about them.

Stage 4
This stage has two possibilities, one or both of which may occur:

Option A
Finally the drug user lets his curiosity get the best of him, and proceeds to order some 10X Salvia extract, some Hawaiian Baby Woodrose seeds and a syringe full of spores after recovering from last month's failed nutmeg experiment (shouldn't have trusted those totse text files!). The Salvia doesn't seem to do anything, the HWBR made him puke for 2 hours straight and the few moldy mushrooms that sprouted from their spores don't look very edible.

Option B
The drug user's curiosity gets the best of him, but decides to place his bet on prescription drugs upon realizing that 'real' psychedelics are too hard to find. Besides, a drug that's prescribed by doctors and hospitals can't be nearly as addictive or harmful as hard drugs. After a few failed experiments with cough syrup (which in the end turned out to contain too much guafenesin) and allergy pills, the drug user is finally frustrated at how much research it actually takes to find out which pharmaceuticals are psychoactive and what the appropriate dosage ranges are. All the drug user's perils are however solved upon his discovery of erowid. The drug user proceeds to take pills from his greataunt's medicine cabinet and enjoys them, until his supplies run out.

Option C
Unfortunately the drug user has to resort to inhalant drugs because psychedelics and prescription drugs are too hard to find or get hold of. The drug user enjoys a brief, blissful high from a few swiped whip cream cans, and has a brief stint involving lighter fluid and ether (which he obtained through water extraction from starter fluid). He decides not to do inhalants anymore after negative comments made by his peers.

Stage 5
This stage has two possibilities, one or both of which may occur:

Option A
At last a 23 year old hippy with dreadlocks offers him an 8th of shrooms at a psytrance party. The resulting trip blows, vivisects and reassambles his mind completely. Psychedelics rule, Woooohoo! The great thing about psychedelics is that they aren't addictive and have no negative aspects at all to speak of. The drug user dismisses "flashbacks" as propaganda but admits that hallucinogens may exacerbate existing or dormant mental disorders, but knows this can and will never happen to him, despite not having checked his family's background concerning hereditary psychiatric ailments. The drug user joins the crusade to legalize hallucinogens for psychonauts and psychiatric researchers alike, while diving deeper into the psytrance scene, finally converting to Budhism and dedicating his soul to living the alternative lifestyle espoused by his new peers.

Option B
At last a 16 year old candy kid dressed in a colourful raver outfit sells the drug user's friends 10 quad-stacked high quality clean rolls at a rave party. The drug user's friends decide to take the rolls together. After each taking one pill and not feeling too much, they decide to take the rest of the pills. The drug user and his friends get sick and vomit without getting high. 2 months later the drug user's friends try again with pills from a different source, this time at the drug user's house just in case they get sick. They have an amazing time, although the drug user's parents threaten to send him off to rehab after noticing his strange behaviour and gigantic pupils. E rules! Wooooh!! The drug user uses MDMA on 35 more occasions during the next 6 months.

Final Stage

The drug user's interest is once again piqued while contemplating the last category of drugs he hasn't tried yet: hard drugs. The drug user has enjoyed many over-the-counter drugs that have effects which are similar to well known hard drugs, such as desoxyn and morphine, but surely that's an entirely different league than meth or heroin? Ultimately, the drug user will not be able to withhold his urge to seek out new and exciting experiences.

Option A
cocaine / methamphetamine / heroin rules! Woooohoooo! The drug user finally realizes that hard drugs have been demonized far too harshly by the conformist media, and that the cause of addiction actually lies with other people being weaker-willed than the drug user himself is, and that it is perfectly okay to abuse hard drugs in moderation. The drug user is hesitant to try his hand at injecting drugs at first, but ends up letting his curiosity get the best of him. Ultimately the drug user overestimates his own capacity to resist addiction, and ends up not realizing that he is getting progressively more dependant on the drug until it is too late. The drug user's life goes to hell, his family ostracizes him, and he either dies or kicks the habit, in that case renouncing his previous drug use and making a living as a public speaker for drug abuse and addiction awareness campaigns at schools across the country.

Option B
The drug user realizes that hard drugs have been demonized far too harshly by the media, but he also realizes that the problem of addiction affects us all and that he is no exception. Because of this careful attitude concerning drugs, he is able to stay clear from addiction. The drug user is hesitant to try his hand at injecting drugs at first, but ends up letting his curiosity get the best of him, and enjoys it. He finally decides to save hard drugs for special occasions such as birthdays or new year's eve, and lives happily ever after.

Which stage are you at?

I am the very very last paragraph. I've never had a problem with addiction because I saw it first hand long before I used drugs, and have known to steer clear, and have respect for drugs, even back in my dumbass days.

Did you type this yourself? You are treading on sore territory, by posting this in BLTC.

As for me, I am in neither of those classes, nor do i fit those classifications at this point in time.
A few years back though.... heh...

And, I have never IV'ed recreational drugs.

It was primarily intended to be funny since ofcourse noone is going to behave exactly as I wrote it down there, but I have to admit I got most of the inspiration by reminiscing about my dumbass days... Especially the 'ordering legal highs off the internet that don't work out' part. The rest I got from the commonly scolded (troll?) threads at totse which are based on the real life behaviour of some people. It's safe to say I went through most of the stages to some degree. Currently at the beginnings of the final part I suppose, trying to garner the experience necessary to get to option B safely.

Final Stage :Option A, I guess.

Oddly enough, I do return to my school once a year, every year (since I graduated) to lecture the health classes about drug addiction/dispel drug myths/tell my 'story'/answer any questions kids may have about my addiction/addiction in general/drug use.

It's very rewarding, and it actually gives me a chance to try to make a difference.

Oh, Christ. That sounded fucking gay.

We have assemblies at my school sometimes where people come in and tell their story's, I actually think they're pretty interesting and sometimes I actually feel like I get something out of it.

I'm more or less the last paragraph but replaced with prescription drugs as opposed to so called "hard" drugs. At least my mindset is that of "smoke weed as much as you want, just don't be lazy." I fucking hate when people smoke and then drop out and turn into convenient store clerks when the have the talent. So yeah I don't fit any of those exactly....

But FOR ME smoking weed is just as "bad" as cigarettes or coffee. It is also just as readily available. FOR OTHERS with no motivation, they need some fucking help--whether it's from friends/family/shrink.

But if you got the number to that 23 yr. old hippy, let me hit em up for some mushrooms.

when you say "convenient store clerks when they have talent".... you mean like something like juggling or garage band/musical instrument, type of talent.... right...

Default Re: the belief system of drug users

Here's my story:
When in high school I had to give a presentation in 7th on an illegal drug, we could choose which drug to present. The purpose of the presentation was to basically tell your class about the dangers of drugs. I chose to research LSD, knowing very little about it but feeling somewhat intrigued by the unique class of drugs that made you have hallucinations. This was when I first stumbled upon Erowid and took up an interest in psychedellic drugs. I actually became quite interested in what I had read about it, and spent many hours reading basically everything on erowid about it as well as reading books about it. This is when I discovered that pretty much everything I had been told about acid before was wrong. I ended up skipping school for the presentation, but I can still remember telling my one friend shortly after this whole thing that "If I ever did do drugs, I think I would do LSD."
The first time I really did anything was some exploration into DXM shortly when I was 17 and 18. I had a handful of really good times on DXM before I starting getting sick and feeling shitty from it. Started smoking cigs two months after I turned 18. Then I got turned on to pot, and I really really liked it. Just to note, up until this point I never even drank alcohol before and found drunks to be very annoying. I sought out LSD and mushrooms, but I could never find them. I did find some people selling pharmies though. And once I got up to college I started drinking.
Fast forward about a year and I was smoking weed all day every day, pack of cigs a day, getting drunk 3-4 times a week, and taking pills or whatever I could find to get me high. Never did coke, meth, heroin or any really hard shit though because I fear the addiction.
Fast forward another few months, I drop acid for the first time.
Fast foward two years, I've taken acid about 20 times, mushrooms 10, and mescaline 2 times. I have quit smoking (I was tripping on acid, decided that I should quit, and haven't smoked since last December). I also barely drink now, and when I do it's only on special occasions and a few beers. I also completely swore off all drugs except for pot and psychedellics. I still smoke pot, but I smoke a lot less.
I feel I am much happier, healthier, socialiable, and spiritual person than I have been in many, many years.
I'm also consistently making the Dean's List (A- average or higher) in College with a Dual Major in English and Philosophy with a minor in French.

And I am 100% confident that I will never do hard drugs. I've known multiple people that have completely fucked up their lives because of shit like crack, coke, meth, and heroin. I've seen first hand what hard drugs turn people into. I went to my one friend's funeral who ODed (on coke mixed with oxys), I swore to myself that I would never touch the shit. I've had multiple opportunities to do all of those drugs as well. I must have been offered coke at least 50 times but I never even hestitated to consider it.

SN and I are pretty much the same person when it comes to morals.

But wtf, TC? People don't turn to drugs because they just suddenly realize that alcohol is awesome. Right from the start, I was fed propoganda until I was absolutely convinced that all drugs are BAD and anybody who touches them are BAD. However, right around the time I turned 10, I became bored with the usual recess period at school, and began to read instead. I don't know why I chose to research drugs, I suppose they had always interested me for whatever reason (call it fate, I dunno).

Anyway, right around the time I started reading about LSD, and learned that it had no physiological consequences, I started to think that something strange was definitely going on. I told all of my friends about my discovery, but I guess the government had already gotten to them (err, was that a cliche'?). Anyway, I continued to research and, well, here I am today - ambitious as ever, and prepared to try pertty much anything as long as the cirumstances are right.

For the record, I don't mind the anti-drugees; I do, however, HATE the semi-drugees who will smoke weed all day but automatically declare that crack and PCP are the equivalent of death and addiction in a crystal. Fuck those guys. They are the ones that are preventing the Libertarian revolution. They are the ones that truly deserve to die!

Tried amps for the first time a few hours ago, if any of you need an explanation... I fucking hate it when I type up some drawn-out, overly-verbose declaration of my feelings only to be ignored straight into obscurity.

Thats a good point. A couple of my good friends that have never touched any illegal drugs are the most open minded toward it and favor legalization. They dont have any interest in ingesting any drugs but they know their shit. I get annoyed by the ppl you stated, who even think shrooms and lsd are fucked up. Then they go drink 10 cups of coffee a day and smoke cigs. But claim they dont do drugs (becuz obviously alcohol, weed, tobacco, and caffeine dont count as "drugs")

That fit me almost exactly. I did a mix of most of the shit below 6. Now I'm at the "OH SHIT STAGE 6 INCOMING" stage and I decided to smoke weed every day. :D And I realized that I have addiction problems and im not that dumb.

Yes i experimented with nutmeg, dxm (without guaf!), and Benadryl. Yes I "spread the word" about weed when i was 14. And No, I never did shrooms. I did E and acid instead. But I did convert to Buddhism temporarily.

Props to OP for this perfect examination of my life.

I guess I would fit in the category of what you consider to be a "semi-druggy". I do smoke weed (definetly not all day tho) and take psychedellics, but swore off harder drugs for a variety of reasons.
I do take a certain amount of comfort in the fact of knowing that no matter how much money I have I am never going to overdose on the drugs I use. That is one plus side to marijuana and psychedellics.
Also, I while I feel marijuana use can lead to psychological addiction or habituation, kicking the habit is relatively easy and pain-free when compared to the terrible withdrawls that come from addiction to heroin, meth, cocaine/crack, and even cigarettes.
Also, I personally feel that I have an addictive personality. I have seen hard drugs fuck up the lives of a good number of close friends, including a few that overdosed (cocaine and/or opiates). That shit sucks. I've also seen people be completely changed by and have their lives focused on simply getting high on their drug of choice, which even if it is just weed, is not a healthy or good lifestyle at all. I choose not to do the drugs because of a variety of reasons, one of them being that I believe that I would really enjoy hard drugs a great deal, and I can't afford to even chance an addiction to one of those substances.

However, even though I personally refuse to do hard drugs, I do not go around spewing anti-drug propaganda or blame hard drugs for everything. In the grand scheme of things, there are much bigger problems in the world than a couple of junkies.

Here is what I do preach though:
I believe that every person should educate themselves thoroughly on any drug before they consume it. From there on, it is their decision whether to do that drug or not. If they choose to do it, however, they are responsible for whatever happens as a result of it and should be willing to accept that responsibility.
And I think you could agree with me on that.

This a fucking stupid generalization.

Bullshit. It seems you are the one sucking his dick. I didn't go through those ridiculous steps. So what do you base your statement of "It's actually pretty accurate." on? Did you fucking poll every drug user after sucking a big black pole?

meh, i dont really fit into the first stages...

it was just sort of no real problems with drugs...

curiosity in chemicals came along... and i started reading everything on erowid...

then i did have the "omg i got drunk" thing around freshman year..

then a family member said "you wanna take these pills and smoke some weed?"

knowing i couldnt die from taking 3-4mg of klonopin i ate them, thinking "worst that could happen is a black out"... blackout occurred.

chugged down some cough syrup, DXM only because i had educated myself enough to know the guaf caused nausea. had a good time...

smoked alot more weed...

dropped acid, ate some shrooms...

smoked more weed...

dropped some more acid...

railed 30mg of oxy about an hour after a bad car crash...

dropped some more acid...

smoked more weed.

tried various unconventional drugs, benzedrex inhaler, dramamine and smoked datura...

did some more oxy...

more or less this is the general timeline of my drug use... my only addiction is cigarettes, i learned my lesson with the oxy the first time i used it. blissfully euphoric for a few hours then i craved it for the next few days... i only use it every now and then...

I didn't go through those steps either. You clearly have no experience living in white American suburbia, or you're arguing for the sake of rebellion.

You said it's a stupid generalization. If you look at drug use by the youth of white American suburbia, it is highly accurate. And yes, I have informally polled drug users by offering them cigarettes and then promptly being told to fuck off with my "cancer sticks". Same with pills, etc.

I think the funny part of this thread is how people knee-jerked, thinking this guy was anti-drug, and thereby attempted to discredit him.

Ha, because I haven't been "polling" drug users by handing out free cigarettes and pills (Which I highly fucking doubt you did, lmfao) Go back to living in a fantasy world where you believe you grasp the truth about this forum more than I do. It is very amusing that you think these specific traits or "stages" are accurate to pretty much every drug user. And with your "research", that gives you the all mighty authority over this subject, the test subjects gave you these answers when asked about their "belief system"? All that from trying to hand out cigarettes and pills? Give it a rest. You are try way too hard to sound intelligent and are a fucking moron, end of story.

While your system is probably pretty accurate for a lot of people, my progression was quite different.

Back when I was thirteen years old, I read a whole lot about drugs in books and on the internet, and pretty much came to the conclusion that all drugs should be legal and are fine to do in the right circumstances.

After that, I pretty much would do any drug I was interested in without hesitation. However, there are some drugs that I have no interest in and I don't find them to be worth doing. Examples of that include benzodiazepines and crack, as well as the unsafe kinds of inhalants and things that aren't even drugs, just stupidity.

My drug use has always been based upon how intelligently I'm using drugs, not what drugs I am using. Moderation is key.

This a fucking stupid generalization.

It was primarily intended to be funny since ofcourse noone is going to behave exactly as I wrote it down there

It usually takes a lengthy process in order to really find out the complete truth behind something. Finding out that the government lied to us about drugs was really only the beginning of a lengthy quest for knowledge. It doesn't automatically mean that weed, for example, is 100% benign. Surely it's way more benign than the government makes it out to be, it's even safer than alcohol in most ways, but assuming that weed has no bad aspects at all would be a mistake. Same thing with every other drug that appears dangerous on the outside, harmless on the inside, but a mixture of benefits and dangers at the core. In the end you have to listen to both sides of the argument until you can make up your own opinion, based on your personal values and the values of others, on how your attitude in regard to certain drugs should be.

I'm not sure what stage I'm at. I started kind of out of order according to that list.

I started with prescription pills in middle school, alcohol, smoking cigs, and then moved to weed, keeping pills all throughout it all...up until present day.

I don't have any desire to do psychedelics like shrooms. I have wanted to IV stuff, just haven't attempted real hard to make it a "goal".

I am actually a certified Phlebotomist, haven't done anything with the certification (still trying to pay off the loans) so I know I would have no problem IV-ing things...obtaining things to do it with.

I dont think i fit into any of those. I started smoking weed when i was 14 then quit about 8 months later because it took my social life away. I would only smoke with the same people almost every other day. I was fine with it till about 5 months in till one of them started getting on my nerves and ruined my high whenever he was with us because he was annoying as fuck, always acted higher than he really was, and never wanted to hang out with anyone else. I beat the shit out of him and jacked his bike a couple weeks ago and haven't smoked since haha. Now i feel kind of awkward around my other friends who have never smoked. It was kind of like when i played world of warcraft for 6 months then quit. I don't plan on smoking again but i wouldn't mind it on rare occasions

That's pretty damned accurate; though I personally never went through the stoner kid stage, having tried a little weed I found it boring and set my heart on psychedelics and searched for months on end until finally breaking into the psytrance sort of scene you described, though my first time on acid was at a mate's with some gorgeous hendrix. Since then, I've had experience with pretty much all of the commonly available recreational drugs, and spent some time in Final stage, option B, before realising that those kinds of drugs give a shallow high. I suppose the closest point to mine is stage 5-A, though I'd like to think there's a little more depth to my cause then that. yes, I firmly believe in the legalisation of psychedelics, or at the very least their regulation and decriminalization 9along with the majority of all other drugs on the planet), as a person's neurochemistry is entirely their own business.

Truth be told, I probably dilute my own psychedelic experiences by taking them far too often, but hell, I enjoy them, and I use them to better myself. A lot of the people I know swear that acid should be a once-a-month thing, but on the whole, it usually winds up being a once-a-week thing, although it's often combined with or substituted with any range of other psychedelics and RCs.

Pretty scarily accurate man for the first steps. not perfectly, but the thought processes are pretty familiar.

I'm not really at any of these stages, I like to think i transcend them but I doubt I do.

i'd say 5A is the most similar to me though.

i still say your DOC is one of the first you try, that is if you subscribe to the belief that all opiates are inherently similar and the difference lies in potencey and alkaloid base/content..

but then you could also group benzo's together...

Well I think I completely disregarded your little "plan"
1. Is bored during the summer, somewhere around the summer between the 6th and 7th grade, I searched how to make bombs on the internet, found totse
2. Became interested in marijuana after browsing totse for about a year, didn't know anyone who smoked or sold it, decided to grow it
3. Parents find plants, I harvest the leaves and smoke them and get high as fuck
4. Start smoking more and more into the 9th grade, about a quarter every week
5. I start smoking cigs around the winter of 9th grade
6. Trys cocaine a couple times
7. does shrooms and lsd
8. doesn't do anything else occasionally except weed

2->3->5a->4a->6b.

Now, there are four DISTINCT states of being in the cannabis, or Marijuana, society: Cool, Groovy, Hip, and Square. The square is seldom if ever cool. He is not "with it," that is, he doesn't know "what's happening." But if he manages to figure it out, he moves up a notch to "hip." And if he can bring himself to approve of what is happening, he becomes "groovy." GROOVY... After that, with much luck and perseverance, he can rise to the rank of "cool." ...Becoming one of those, cool guys...

Your generalizations fit me pretty well. I tried weed, and didn't like it, though. Afterwords, I concluded that it was a matter of taste and that it should be legal because being choosy about what drugs should be legal, and what drugs shouldn't, is hypocritical.

Then after ruining myself on alcohol and prescription painkillers, I tried weed again. It became my golden ticket out of alcoholism. Psychedelics just kind of spawned as a side hobby.
